(originally posted on warseer 4/16)

I figured I'ld start an army building log from start to finish - my small way of saying thanks to all the great sites I visit for trading and ideas.

I've been planning and slowly assembling this project over the past year or so.

My idea is basically to do a Lost and the Damned army - however focus it on the old Daemonworld list in the appendix of the 2nd Edition Chaos Codex. What that basically means is an army for the mostpart devoid of CSM, but with lots of 'fodder' led by a pretty substantial Demon Prince. These armies battle armies of other gods for control of planets or other stakes in the Eye.

I decided to focus on a Slaaneshi army - with a strong theme towards a beastherd.

The 2nd Edition Demonworld list allowed the following units (plus various allies, though I'll only include some traitiors - ala IG allies):

1 Demon Prince - mandatory
Greater Daemons
Daemonic Icon Bearer
Chaos Warrior Champions
Chaos Magus (sorcerer)
Beastmen Champions
Daemons (all sorts)
Chaos Warrior Warbands
Chaos Hounds
Beastmen
Minotaurs
Trolls

Obviously I'll have to bend that list to at least field a partially competitve list, but I'm trying to stick to that theme as much as possible.

I'll update where I'm headed as the army progresses (don't want to let all the cats out of the bag yet!) but my mandatory units are going to be 3 units of 18 beastmen (count as mutants) all including a beastman champion (mutant boss) and led by a Chaos Warrior Champion (count as CSM Aspiting Champions).

So...here is the test scheme I posted in the general painting a week or so ago - I'm happy with the current look...

Here are some shots of the first mutant unit, prepaint. included in each beastman unit will be a standard bearer (icon bearer), musician, and 2 beastmen with flamers. Each unit also has a few minor conversions - every beastman has a chain weapon of sorts to '40k' them, there are also some weapon swaps and additional wraps, loincloths where needed as I'm using the color on these to seperate units.

This particular unit has a Boss with a powerfist and is led by a Chaos Warrior Champion with a Powerfist and a MoCU (Okay, I realize I should have gone with MoS but I'm going to need all the help I can get - this army is going to have a tough time winning any games!)

Here is the first unit:

OK, so taking the C&C into consideration, I've slapped this guy together which I think is definately better suited for the fist...

Of course the final product will be standing on a rock or something...

Tough week here - but finally an update!

I decided to figure out the pallette for my Slaanesh daemons before continuing with the beasts...

Here are some pics of the 2 daemonettes I've painted - I think the lighter shades will compliment the darker beastmen nicely...

That's nice demon skin (and I'm not just saying that because you zoomed in on

Looking good so far!
I have a stack of minis that are calling out to be painted, one such group being a rather sizable LatD horde, probably my favourite force...

I agree with everyone else - nice daemon skins!

I like the whole 'Demonworld" idea. It's too bad I never got a copy of the Chaos Codex that's in, as I think it sounds very interesting. Is this what happens to all the heretics when they die? They have to go off to some Emperor-forsaken Daemonworld and live out eternity in some petty Daemon Prince's personal army?? Creepy....

The pink on the ladies cloth is quite impressive, nice blend.
I presume its a full daemon army too so this will be very interestng to see when its done.
The champion is from fantasy i guess but is it a full model or is strapped together from different ones?

I think it's funny that 2 40k beastmen posts showed up in 1 day ...

Your beastmen look fantastic sossorck, I love the 40k-izing and the color-coded sashes to distinguish squads.  I also agree that beastmen are best-suited for LatD mutants, and I've had my own daemonworld army in mind for a while now.  The painting is nice and refreshingly bright too, and the 'nettes look fabulous.  What I'm most interested on them is: how did you do the metal on her grieves?  and the latexy arm gauntlet?  I'd like to do something similar with my own 'nettes, really great effects on both.

Thanks for the pics, can't wait to see where the project goes.  Oh, and the champion looks pretty fantastic too, and I'm really glad to see you bulked him up from that skinny lil Slaanesh milksop body

Wow - been a little while but finally an update!

These guys are taking awhile to paint, but I'm very happy with the results so far.

So...Here are the first 3 Beastmen (Mutants) finished (Except Bases - I'll base the whole army at the same time once complete)

Wow. They look really nice and very clean totally Slaanesh looking in my opinion.

How do you plan to base them ?

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time...

nonoonno.
i meant the fist champion. The skinny one.i recognize the chaos p-fist but is the rest a one piece or is the head separate?

Thanks guys!

Banesword - right now I'm thinking some sort of snow base would be great with these guys as that style ought to compliment the color scheme nicely.

Ancientsociety - Once I get deeper in I might do a step by step going over the skin.

Clayman  -the body & sword are the Fantasy Slaanesh Champ, while the head is from the champ who rides the boobworm. These are nice sculpts - real detailed for plastics IMHO - of course that also makes painting a pain to pick out all the details...

Those beastmen are terrific.  I'm ashamed to even call what I do "painting" after seeing these; mine look more like "ruining perfectly good miniatures".  Thanks for sharing!

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

The beastmen still look fantastic, and I love the unifying pink (the glove is especially nice). Keep up the good work, can't wait for more.

Haven't done much painting of late (new job...LOTS of hours) BUT I have found some time to build...and will soon be posting of my GW tourney Demon Prince (I've got 3 unbuilt so far, though this is the only one 'allowed' in a GT).

I'll be snapping some pics soon...

OK,

As promised here are the pics of the Demon Prince...

First is the original concept - was going to go with the 'snake' body...

After fiddling with this off on on for a month or so, I decided since he is leading a chaos army of beasts - they should be in his 'form' so to speak.

So this is the finished product, I'm pleased with him:

Interesting uses of the mutation sprue! I'm not nuts about the giant hands but he's very Slaaneshi. Keep up the good work.

Thanks guys!

After looking some more I decided I'm also not too fond of the big claw hand...

So I decided to swap that out.

I was originally trying to do a chain necklace (Mikari) but couldnt get it to look right - great idea on around the wrist!

So...pics to show what I did to 'fix' him...
