So, I have been eyeballing X-Wing and Armada lately and am really interested in getting into one of them. I do have some questions about both products before I make a financial jump into one of these games.

Is there a resource for people getting into this game, a "beginners guide"?

Is there any tips you can give to someone looking to get into this game?

Which one would be easier for someone new to the games to begin with? X-Wing or Armada?

X-Wing, its more popular, better established and a simpler gsme to learn but more difficult to master.

Play whatever locally people are playing. Personally I vastly prefer Armada but that's my opinion. There is also currently less to track because it hasn't had 7 waves and doesn't have 3 factions. But those could be good things depending on your view

Seems like more people are playing X-Wing than Armada. They both look fun.

Armada would probably be easier for a newbie to get into, just because everyone is a newbie there!

Just to echo the sentiment but whatever people locally are playing. X-Wing on the whole is more popular, Armada hasn't been out very long so it doesn't have quite the same presence.

X-Wing is much easier to learn the rules and to benefit from other players experiences and strategies by following its online presence. I found the beginners articles here quite handy when I was starting out-

Armada everyone's still flapping about working out whats good. So if you want to join in on that and can get games in choose Armada! I have and am loving it, but I don't think its the one of the two I'd be recommending to a new player.

Play Armada if you like to execute a carefully considered plan.

Play X-Wing if you like to respond to a developing situation.

That sums it up prett well. Armada is more strategic and X-Wing is more tactical and neither have much in common when it comes to rules and how they are played. I think asking, "Which one should I play?" is kind of pointless as they are very much different games that offers different experiences.

Both are fine games but I'd say X-wing is a little easier to get into and to start with a little cheaper

The Armada starter box is a bit expensive and only really gives a 'starter' experience, whereas an X-wing starter and a few extra ships for the same cash outlay is a much broader experience

As for starter resources, the FFG forums are quite good and have some good starter advice posted, along with a fully up to date FAQ for rules updates

Armada is still pretty new, so it's not clear how popular it will be compared to X-Wing over the long run.

The main difference between the games is that Armada uses twice as much board space as X-Wing, and takes about twice as long. It might prove itself to have more depth than X-Wing, which would justify that investment in space and time, but we don't know yet.

Thanks for the help, I have decided to start off with X-Wing (bought the box the other day). I plan on doing Armada later on.
