This update is a followup to the one from the 14th May, and shows even more of the alternate colour schemes we've tried out. This time, we are including some of our personal colour experimentation from our own armies too, so you can see what our humble hobbyist attempts look like alongside the professional painters (please be gentle! )

Yellow Karist Tempest

Urban Karist Tempest

Olive Karist Tempest

Urban Karist Trooper

Red Karist Trooper

Freehand Karist Trooper Sergeant

The Epirian Official Colour Scheme Test Model

And now our personal models - be gentle, as we are not pro-painters! We've really enjoyed painting these models nonetheless, as the range of texture on each model keeps things interesting and allows a real break in texture and shading techniques which keeps painting fresh and exciting.

Red Karist Trooper on an early prototype base

Black Karist Troopers

Black Karist Troopers and Tempest

A Grey Epirian Contractor

An Ochre Karist Trooper

We hope you've enjoyed looking at these variant colour schemes! We can't wait to see your colour choices and photos of your models as you assemble and paint your Maelstrom's Edge forces at the end of the year!

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Bright yellow-orange colour reminiscent of cult robes might be fun for Karist.

Now I see them painted properly i close up I have questions about Epiran body armour. Armoured back, shoulders asnd kneepads, no head or chest protection.

Is this intended to be more 'industrial protection' than actual armour? I wonder if they have warehousemans steel capped boots, or whatever passes for steel nowadays.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

For the head, that sort of depends on whether you see the 'cap' as soft cloth or a rigid 'hardhat' sort of affair.

It's not a combat helmet, certainly... but it's not meant to be.

Chest armour could very easily be built into their suit.

I don't buy that, as the armoured shoulder pads and kneepads are very evident, so saying the jumpsuit is armoured doesnt really cut it as if armoured fabric was sufficient the kneepads would be cloth also.

Not if the armoured jacket is a part of their standard everyday gear, with the shoulder pads and kneepads just being added when required...

Well the devs are here, so maybe they can explain the Epirian uniforms.

The whole torso element up to the arm join is rigid, similar to thick leather in protection capability, and the hat has an armoured band around the rear of it, protecting the wearer from falling backwards or having their head crushed by something dropping on them. The armour is designed to primarily defend against work-related hazards, but also to mitigate surprise attacks (the front being observed by their own eyeballs), which is why common deflective points (shoulders and knees) are armoured. The metal elements on the back of the model are slightly raised as they protect the wearable electronics each contractor has on them.
