I played two Combat Patrols yesterday, and did very well vs Eldar and Crons in both games.

My 500 point Combat Patrol list. One HQ, two TROOPS and a FAST ATTACK. 26 marines and 2 vehicles.

Rune Priest w/ Divinations & Rune Staff leading 15 Blood Claws

10 basic Grey Hunters in a Rhino w/ HK Missile

Landspeeder Typhoon HB & ML

Synopsis: RP cast Div powers on BC or GH, though unreliably with only 1 Mastery Level. You really need more RP levels to cast pricey Div powers. But when the powers worked on Rhino Shocking GH or the BC shooting and assaults they were decisive results. The RP almost got killed due to instant death in CC, rather weak in CC for sure.

Blood Claws mob always took the middle and held ground while in Assaults with their sheer size. Taking casualties never phased their combat strength. They also assaulted a Eldar grav tank and blew it to kingdom come! Those 15 Bolt Pistol shots really help out even at BS 3. This squad kept the volume of dice going.

Grey Hunters Rhino Shock tactic worked wonderfully. As did Storm Bolter w/ 2 Rapid Firing GH out the top for six shots at close range. Combat Patrol 4x4 table is great for Rhinos, lots of maneuver and you can pull of Rhino Shock reliably and take out big chunks of enemy squads. The Rhino did manage to get Immobilized twice due to dangerous terrain tests... going to have to bolt on dozer blades for sure now. The HK did not really do much at this level, not enough targets and too busy rolling around the table to get GH into Rhino Shock position.

Land speeder zipped and grabbed objectives. Also managed take out an Eldar artillery unit in cover before making Jink saves to survive the later turns. This model was shot at a lot and Jink really helped.

MVP: Landspeeder got me First Blood and scored twice grabbing my two backfield objectives, rather far apart from one another. Also managed to get some rear armor shots at a tank but it was in cover :( I kept this Skimmer in the back and it's long range helped to eliminate small arms fire. That fact forced my opponent to move his only tank into the mid field to get shots at it, where the Blood Claws promptly ate it up.

WORST UNIT: Rune Priest with Divination. Sure the re-rolls where nice but otherwise he wasn't really contributing to any scoring or shooting or making wounds somewhere. Never had the chance to use nullify powers either.

NEXT TIME: Bolt on a Dozer Blad and ditch the HK missile. Lose the RP and replace a unit that can grab or contest an objective marker in my opponents zone like simple bolter scouts with a HB. This might help and make it not so easy for him to score his "easy" objectives.
