Well this is the first time I've come to DakkaDakka, though I've read threads here before and comments. I'm actually a former 40k player, and one with quite a history of collecting, though I'm terrible at painting, and truth be told I've actually only come back mainly because I like to read the novels and a few other things.
I'm not much of a gamer, more of a science fiction writer, so long story short I'm more in 40k for the lore rather than much else. I still have my models though, and I still got my paints, never touched them since nearly 10 years ago though.

Thanks mate, I stopped playing around the time 5th edition came out, for obvious reasons.
My first army was Dark Eldar, since they required actual skill to use, and I used to use them really well, though I kept failing when it came to actual tactics, something I never had time to fully correct in the time I've played. Oh well that's in the past.

Well, I pretty much stopped playing 40K when 6th edition came out...

Weird, eh?

I enjoyed 2nd for what it was - while 3rd pushed me out completely.

I came back for 4th and 5th, but 6th and 7th?

No thanks!

Yeah I know the feeling, right now though I've got over a hundred bloody marines I painted years ago on top of a number of other models left over, like Dark Eldar, and a few Tau suits and a platoon of Imperial Guard, plus a ruined Devil Fish and a Space Marine tank I was intending to convert into some kind of kitbash between it and a Leman Russ battle tank.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
