I keep looking, but I can't find any tournaments in X-wing in the Chicagoland area. Is the interest in the game really dropping that much?

Check out Windy City Squadron on Facebook or NOVA Squadron (we're mainly in the DC area but there are members from all over). It also seems that Pastimes in Niles, IL hosts X-Wing tourneys and a league games every Wednesday, according to this.

Sounds like an opportunity to gather a flock of X-Wingers, work out a time slot with a FLGS, and start running your own leagues, Campaigns, and Tournys.

I used to do this kind of thing with Mechwarrior and to an extent Warmachine, but I don't have the time for that now - it's why I go to tournaments, I can get a lot in at one time. Also, most game shops only have open days during the week for a game night. I can't get out during the week, only weekends (another reason why tourneys are preferred).

The Chicago-land Regionals are on July 27th at Pastimes. You need to preregister for the event, which you can do here. There is a 100 player cap and they are apparently pretty close to it.

Well now you moved the goal posts
I find that most of our tournaments locally are done during the week. This is because they can get 8-16 people in pretty easy and run a full event before closing and keep their Saturdays open for Magic or games that take longer like 40k or Armada.

Not really. Don't people work during the week? Any other kind of game I can think of only has tournaments on the weekend. The last couple of times that tournaments were run in Grayslake (a while ago) was on a weekend. Any tournament run at Games Plus is almost always run on a weekend (for x-wing of any other kind of game). If this were an extended weekend like Labor day or Memorial Day, I could understand, but needing to take a vacation day for a tournament when I only get two weeks a year is asking a lot.

I mis-typed, the Regional tourney is on Saturday, July 25th (sorry, I posted that at like 3:00 in the morning on my last night shift but in my defense, it has the correct date on the pre-registration page I linked ). Larger scale tournaments (like Store Championships and Regionals) are usually on the weekends. My area (NoVA) has small midweek tournaments all the time for just about all games outside of Magic. The main store I play at has them once a month, always on a Wednesday.

ok, that makes a lot more sense - I couldn't imagine that almost 100 people taking off of work for a tournament that isn't at a con. (I couldn't see the link at work - I'll have to try it tonight) - I'm busy that day, but it is good to see that at least one store in the Chicagoland area has an active x-wing community.
