Enforce a maximum amount of Warscrolls to be used per side.
Enforce a minimum amount of rank and file units - these units can be no larger than double the starting size.
Must have at least one character, but no more than one for every two rank and file units.
No more than one monster for every two rank and file units, this is cumulative with the character restriction (so you'll need four rank and file to field a general on a dragon).
We've been toying with this since Thursday and it's worked so far.

So you essentially have a FOC of the following...
1 Hero
1-2 Rank and File
0-1 Monster
... which you can take multiples of?
The only problem I can see with this is, unlike other peoples' stabs at a FOC, it doesn't distinguish between rank and file units (i.e. Core, Special, Rare) and so taking 2 units of, say, Mournfangs, would be the same as taking 2 unit of goblins.

Works with friends at home but you can't enforce it in store and there's always that guy who's outspent you and wants to use every model he brought.

This new game is pretty much a social gathering game between friends now.
It works for us. Automatically Appended Next Post: We are also going to differentiate from Cav and Rank and File.

Just do Warscroll Limitations (10-12 Warscrolls per side) and maybe unit sizes (Dbl the size is fine).
Monsters/heroes are good.... but a unit of 20 dudes can easily take down a Monster in a couple rounds or at least get it to a few wounds left (then just shoot it).
Also heroes die easy from shooting.
