So I'm looking at building a borg ship for an upcoming game and this is the first time using them. I have two nano bot upgrade slots and the additional rule's card says "for each nano icon shown in the upgrade bar, the ship can equip one borg upgrade card with the matching icon." so does that mean that i can't use two of the same upgrade card?

Yes you can as long as it's not unique. For instance the named Borg Shere has two borg upgrade slots so you could put two Borg Ablative Hull Armours on it.

And that was what i was going to do with the tactical borg cube. Two ABH to be a d*ck

Yes, so long as the card is not unique. So you could have two Borg Ablative Hull Armors, for example. This is no different to any other type of Upgrade.

The problem is points. If you are playing by the current official rules, you'll have a limit of 50 points per ship. With Borg ships, this leaves very few points to spend on Captain and Upgrades. There's a special rule for expensive ships that means you always get at least 8 points for this, allowing you to go over the 50 point limit when the bare ship costs 43 or more points. For example, Tactical Cube 138 costs 46 points, you get 8 points for Upgrades, for a total of up to 54 points for that ship. Still, 8 points isn't going to buy you much.

If you're just playing a friendly game, then go wild, but without these restrictions the Borg can be very powerful, so be aware that you might end up dominating the game. This can be unfun for your opponent(s) if it quickly becomes a game they can't win. You can balance future games by giving your opponent(s) more points for their fleet.

We're only muck around atm with 100pts each. It's going to be a 3 player game so i imagine that once they see what i pull out they'll target me first up.

I had a fun game introducing my friends to Borg Tractor Beam & Cutting Beam to cries of "but I'm cloaked!". They don't let me play Borg any more

Oh that is awesome ...

Something fun, but not as scary "looking" is a swarm of Scout Cubes... I placed second in an OP event with a swarm of them. they also have the Magnometic guided charges, which really make cloaked players mad, since they get no defense dice.

Only the named scout cubes have weapon slots. What did you put on the other to get weapon?
