I'm actually pretty pumped to play the new AoS system. I think its moving in a very divergent way from most wargames, and opens up a lot of possibilities.
A way I thought would be good to play AoS is to play unconventional scenarios, which are very difficult to balance with points. I'm going to post a few:
1) Co-op mode - AoS lends itself very well to this. Have players face off against an auto-frenzied horde that will auto-attack, or move against the units nearest to it. The "enemy" will not be playing tactically, but you can ramp up and down the difficulty depending on how many models the other side have. Can apply to all other scenarios below too!
2) Dungeon explore - Have a small band of 2-3 units romping throughout a dungeon of sorts. Can easily do this with D&D modular tiles. ramp up or down difficulty level by giving the other side more/less units, or letting them "release" a model from an unexplored edge each turn. A bit uninspired, but a good way to use the system IMO
3) Tower defence - one player tries to make it out via a small opening, while the other tries to stop them. Other rules can be added on, like no flying units count, only a single model escaping is all that's matters, etc.
4) Survivor mode - Last as many turns as you can against an unlimited amount of enemies
any other ideas? Interested to see more.
