Anyone ever watch the history channel show where the guy lays out the board and describes the battle as tanks and infantry from opposing sides clash it out on the board. the thing is that the infantry, tanks and planes from one side are a single color, and the opposing side a different color. Usually its redfor vs blufor. Well it's been a while since I've played Flames of War. I really want my new armies to be painted up fast, and needless to say I was inspired to do such starting with the soviets. I plan on doing several armies in the manner: Red Soviets, Green Americans, Grey Germans, Brown Brits, Blue French etc etc.. here is my t-34s (two of them)

Bf Studio test armies are done that way.I guess it is a matter of taste back in the day i used to be the Tin man.I had more than enough models that needed painting and also i was more of a gamer than painter.Buying more every week than i could paint in a month..

Definitely an interesting and easy way to get an army painted. I like the idea behind your reasoning though. I would have no problems playing with color coded armies.

I think the only possible problem may be the conformity of the army. If everything is painted green, for example, it may be a bit hard to identify certain models and units.

So very much yuck!

I think the game is only really the game when you have that cinematic deal. I love the camo, and diet, and grime, and stars and other insignia.

Just one colour blind is not for me

Kinda reminds me of the old Axis and Allies colored pieces.

I'd suggest possibly just drybrushing the tracks and guns maybe? For a touch of variation?

Hmmm...

On the one hand, I can see the appeal of being able to get relatively distinctly painted miniatures on the table rather quickly.

On the other, I agree with Freytag that this might make distinguishing units within a force difficult.

I think it'll depend on what a finished force looks like, and what two or more of them look like on the table. Also, I might be worried that this'll restrict the quality of the terrain you use - it'll look odd to have painted up houses and realistically detailed fields and trees next to block-colored infantry and vehicles.

I will definitely have to post pics of some of the infantry painted and based. I didn't know BF did their armies as such. As it has been a while since I last played and the game is on its 3rd edition (?), I don't imagine distinguishing between what is what should be too difficult since you can't really mix say a waffen SS company with a panzer grenadier company can you?

It could possibly be sorted by painting the base trim in different colors perhaps to indicate what the unit is.

Some of the End War (or Late-Late War) German lists do mix up quite a few units and organizations.

Could work pretty well actually, would be better if you highlight/drybrush the models a bit, perhaps pick out tracks/tyres or something similar.

Individual special models can be marked on base edges so reasonably easy.

I;d not have a problem facing something like that, an army that appears to have been painted using one can of primer and nothing else is a bit more of an issue, but only if the player is a pain as well. But mono colour, with a bit of a basic drybrush highlight and as noted maybe tracks/tyres (even if only a bit of a metal/dark grey drybrush) would look decent.

In effect for vehicles go for the look of vehicles that have actually been painted that one colour for $reasons. Infantry with flesh and weapons picked out but all cloth and 'painted metal' in the mono colour as well could be an interesting effect

Yeah the pictures don't really do it justice. The tanks were proved black then painted a dark red and given several dry brushed layers of bright red. One more highlight should do it. thought to be quiet honest I thought about giving them a repaint using army painter red then a coat of dark tone.
