Was going to post this as a reply to another thread but it became it's own monster...

Really, isn't the best way to determine points to declare a baseline and based on what % better the model is than that baseline, add that many points?

For a baseline (doesn't matter what it is, since everything is normalized now) we say, 4" move, 5+ Save, 6 Bravery, 1 Wounds with a weapon that's 1"/1/4+/4+/-/1. That model costs 10 points.
make the save 4+ and it's ~17% better, so make it 12pts. That weapon statline comes out to be 25% chance to cause 1 damage, so if we increase to 3+/3+ it's ~44% chance to cause 1 damage (19% better).

So now our model (4" move, 4+ Save, 6 Bravery, 1 Wounds wit ha weapon that's 1"/1/3+/3+/-/1) costs 14pts.

For the more esoteric stats like Wounds, Rend, and melee weapon range, we need to do something different.

I say for wounds, add 10 pts per extra wound. If your model is reduced in effectiveness based on wounds suffered, each "tier" of Wounds Suffered reduces that by 1/2pts.

So a 14 Wounds monster...
first 3 wounds = 10pts each, 30pts
wounds 4-6 = 8pts each, 24pts
wounds 7-9 = 6pts each, 18pts
wounds 10-12 = 4pts each, 12pts
wounds 13,14 = 2pts each, 4pts

total of 88pts for just the wounds of the Wrath of Khorne Bloodthirster.

Under this system, I'd say that situational bonuses don't get pointed at all.

To sum it up:
10 (base price) +
% chance to save - 33% * 10 +
% to cause 1 damage - 25% * 10 +
some complicated equation for wounds +
2pts per rend (sure) +
2pts per inch of melee range (sure) +
(1-(move / 4)) * 10 +
??? ranged attacks + (Ranged weapon calculation: Base 18" range? Otherwise same as melee weapons)
??? magic* +
??? command ability*
*decided to make this a flat 5/10

Wondering if I'm using the wrong math/term to describe weapon effectiveness? Is it really 264% chance to cause 1 damage?
3+ to hit, 3+ to wound = .44% chance to connect, then you do 6 damage (at 0-3 Wounds Suffered) so .44*6=2.64*100=264%? Is that chance to cause 1 wound or is that something else?

So what do you all think? Worth pursuing? I could go through select warscrolls and calculate it out if other people have the chance to playtest it (my sparring partner is 30min away and slow enough with rules as it is, plus our collections are small enough that we couldn't test it well)

Example full stats (forgive the shoddy formatting!)
Wrath of Khorne Bloodthirster
Move = 15pts
Save = 2pts
Bravery = 7pts
Wounds = 88pts
Fly = 2pts
Hellfire Breath = 10pts
Command Ability = 10pts
Runecrown = 5pts
Bloodflail = -3pts (range) + 2 (rend) + 24pts (264% chance to cause 1 damage) = 23pts
Mighty Axe of Khorne = +2 (range) + 4(rend) + 8 (109% chance to cause 1 damage = 14pts
Total: 176pts

Dwarf Warriors
Move = 0pts
Save = 0pts (Dwarf Shields are a situational bonus)
Bravery = 0pts
Wounds = 0pts
Dwarf Axe/Hammer = +1 (33% chance to cause 1 damage)
Total: 11pts (Dwarf Axe/Hammer)

Double Handed Dwarf Axe = +1 (33% chance to cause 1 damage) +2 (rend) = 3pts
Total: 13pts (Double Handed Dwarf Axe)

Pheonix Guard
Move = +5
Save = (Witness to Destiny makes you have a 75% chance to prevent any given damage) +4
Bravery = +2
Wounds = 0
Phoenix Halberd = +2 (range) + 6(86% chance to cause 1 damage) = 8
Total:29pts

FOUND A GLARING FLAW
Let's add +5 pts base for any model with a ranged attack to clear that up, see how that does.

Goblin:
Move = +3
Save = -2
Bravery = -3
Wounds = 0pts
Spear = +2 (range) -1(17% chance to cause 1 damage) = +1
Total:9pts

Bow = -1 (range) -2 (11% chance to cause 1 damage) = -3
Slasha = -2 (11% chance to cause 1 damage) = -2
Total = 3pts (8pts if you add +5 for having a ranged weapon)
