Thinking about type of Crisis and Battlesuits that Tau commanders wear, how do you guys feel about their bodyguards wearing the similar or same armor.

XV-9 suit. I would like to see him in a group of XV-9's. Would you mind something like that?

I'd be fine with that except for the wonky rule that O'Ralai has that prevents him from joining a unit.

Without that, though, I'd say just give him a rule like Shadowsun has: XV9 Hazard suits in a unit that he's joined gain Sworn Protector.

But where does it say that he cannot join unit

It states on his rule sheet:
StalWart commander - R'alai is an independent character and is Stubborn as per the Universal Rules, and confers this rule to any battle-suit equipped Tau Unit he joins.

I don't have the IA in front of me at this moment, but it's the Lone Warrior special rule.

Maybe my IA3 book needs updating to V2.

I just bought the IA3 V2 the other day... R'alai has the special Rules: Supporting Fire, Extremely Bulky, Independant Character, Stubborn and Lone Warrior.

"Lone Warrior: Shas'o R'alai can not leave or join units other than the unit he forms with his blacklight drones. In addition, he may not take an XV8 Crisis Bodyguard Team"
