Just a word of warning i used the new gold spray from GW to base some stormcast eternal from the new box set and it came out very grainy. in contrast i used gw corvex white spray for the chaos models at the same time same place same distance ect ect and they are fine i normally spray from the full 30cm distance, as i generally use cheap black primer and it pools if used to close, as by the instructions, but after contacting the GW customer services they said this spray has a much higher pigment content than any of the other sprays they make and may require cooler temps and closer spray distance (30-15cm) to work.

They are replacing the models i sprayed gold and sending me a new can of paint. it will be interesting to see if it was a defective can or if can adjust my normal use of the product to get it working.
I will try the spray at 15cm and report back.

Unfortunate issue but as always great customer service by GW(considering it may have been my fault in the end), they replied over the weekend and each reply i left a day for a response but when i checked my email, each time, they had emailed back in just 30 mins.

I would still recommend the paint its a great colour but maybe just test spray first on some sprue or old bases.

ps. MODS sorry if this would be better in PnM forum but i though maybe more important to AOS/fantasy people, please move if needed.

i hope you do know that all the color sprays are not for undercoating
you have to use the black or white sprays first

No where on the packaging does it say this, and i have several different coloured spray from GW, the corvex white and the gold have the same can just different colours on the front, also GW customer service didnt question this, also i have a
tyranid army done in zandry dust that came out fine without primer. You get a stronger bond but all the GW sprays coloured or not seem to have good tooth and coverage.

But anyways im aware of the effect layering paint has and yes i did spray the models black first as i wished for a rich gold, i also allowed the solvent to fully degas before applying the gold just in case, not that this normally matters as my SM are all based black the half white with only mixing time between sprays any they are fine.

This has no effect on the issue I stated.

Thank you for your input though.

I will email GW to clarify this

EDIT:

Ok So GW got back to me already
Quote to be fair: ''The new gold spray can be applied straight to the plastic''

They go on to say you will get a different effects by spraying other colours first but i believe this is more in the spirit of changing the tone.

===>Games Workshop Spray Paint<===

You must be one of five people on this earth who are willing to shell out $28/£17 for a lousy can of colored spray paint. What a ripoff GW can be sometimes.

Anyway, according to the GW website the Retributor Armor spray "allows you to quickly and easily basecoat your miniatures with uniform coverage", so customer service must've told ya right. It is a basecoat spray.

Next time consider finding a cheaper spray paint and spending the leftover money on a nice chocolate cake or some delicious sandwiches. Hmm, I'm hungry.
