Personally, I have 4 WFB armies. (My signature doesn't reflect the Wood Elves army I started building last year.) But I'm planning on keeping all 4 to continue to hopefully find WFB games to play them.

I may sell off some of the extra models I have, but for the most part I have no plans to get rid of any of my armies.

How about you guys?

Kings of War.

Plus I don't have to hear KoW has less rules so must have less replay value, from the GW fantasy players .

Warband gangs (3-20 minis) for Brink of Battle's fantasy expansion:

Skirmish retinues (40-60 minis) for Lion Rampant and it's upcoming fantasy sequel Dragon Rampant:

Maaaaybe unit block armies for Mayhem.

I think I have enough skaven accumulated for that, but might just use me 10mm Warmaster armies. I'm starting to prefer smaller scales for mass battles, but it depends how many 28mm high elves I can scrape off ebay or elsewhere. But all the same, those new games have surprised me by getting me to buy Warhammer minis again, including starting new armies, and even buying direct from GW! Just a bit ironic that it comes about the same time WFB died a death.

KoW, 6th edition, 8th edition, and AoS. I have people willing to play all 4, depending who I want to chill with. No reason I can't play 4 different rule sets that all support my models.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I don't hate it, I think it's a mess right now, and I have a lot of uncertainty about the direction GW is taking, both with the rules and the story. Don't mistake honest criticism for hating on something.

Like every one else round my way, just playing 8th. I have 6 WHFB armies built over 25 years, its not like I'm going to play anything else with them, there WHFB Armies, and fun to play. We also play Warhammer Skirmish games linking in to WHFB, so AOS is a non entity.

The only issue I had with my first two games is that it's kinda... bland?

All the units seem to be extremely homogenized - almost everyone is To Hit 4+, To Wound 3+, Rend -/1, 1 damage.

Maybe I'll get a different feeling from ogres, but it really just felt like a boring grind when my sigmarines faced bretonnian knights.

Hopefully it'll get better over time, but I might just have played too many real skirmish games and kinda miss the complexity and sheer amount of things you can do in them...

Edit: As for my armies... I have them. I am not going to sell them anytime soon - I value the time I spent collecting and assembling them, they were my passion for more than a half of my life. I don't think I'll switch over to KoW or any similar game as I hate shoebox regiment formation movement (unless some game comes up with a way of using regiments nicely without feeling that you could just as well use a wooden block), so I will be keeping them and maybe using for AoS if it turns out nice. GW's miniatures benefit from round bases, so they'll look better that way anyway. Otherwise they'll just stay in my closet, neatly displayed along my 40k, Warmachine, Hordes, Dystopian Wars, WarZone: Resurrection, X-Wing and Armada miniatures. I have already spent a lot of money on plastic, no need to get rid of some of it just yet just because the game is not 8th edition anymore (which I kinda disliked anyway, because the horde rules really ruined it for me).

Can wait, can switch over, can keep using them in AoS if I so desire... I've already spent that money and I still love them.

My group is playing AoS, End Times 8th, and we'll be doing Kings of War when they drop the "Not GW, but GW" army book compilation (which is not a shot, I actually think its both savvy and cool they are doing that) to figure out how we want to go forward.

It's pretty evenly split. Some of us like the simplicity and casualness of AoS, myself i've played about a dozen games or so of AoS, and they've been split equally along the lines of 'fun' to 'lopsided trainwreck'. My personal take is the smaller the game, the better the play. The games i've played with 2-3 "warscrolls" on each side have been pretty darn fun. Actually willy nilly list building games has turned out ubiquitously stupid every time. Fancy 3 sentence way of saying "the games biggest issue is no weighted list construction method".

Kings of War... looks kinda like a mash up of the things i liked about ET8, and AoS, with exception that i'd prefer a more robust magic phase. In any event i was pleasantly surprised with how much i liked the core rule set, so i'm pre-ordering up a 2nd ed book, and then eagerly going to wait for the army list compendiums.

Right now, i'm on the fence. I think in a perfect world i'd continue with ET8 myself, but i want to give AoS and KoW enough of a chance before making my decision. I know there's nothing making me play only "1", but actually there is: Time. I basically have time for 2-3 games. 40k is one, xwing is the next, so to scratch my fantasy itch it's going to be one and done. I don't have the gaming time available for more than 1 fantasy game unless i basically closet the other two, and that gak's not going to happen. I really like painting and playing my tau and ad mech, and xwing is positively a borderline illegal amount of fun.

Because its like telling chess players to play checkers with as many pieces as they have the money to pay for. And then recalling all the chess sets so you can incinerate them.

Except instead of calling it checkers, you call it sigmarkkers. and you don't king yourself, you sigmar yourself. and the pieces are made of sigmarite.

oh and everyone of them costs $40.

Played another game today... found another thing that i don't like about AoS. I was playing Ogres, and it's completely possible to wipe out your opponent, still have to take a battleshock test, and then get wiped out yourself. Stupid. Yeah it's not going to happen often, particularly with some of the abilities Ogres have, but it happened to me today due to some relatively gak rolling.

When I realized exactly what had had occurred in totality, for the first time in about 4 years I actually missed playing Warmachine where ridiculous jackassery like this doesn't happen. At least if you lose because you didn't remember one of the 350+ rules, well, okay, that's on you. When you lose because the system behaves stupidly, its a lot harder to get behind.

Our Skaven player is just about done with AoS, at least with his Skaven. He's ready to try my Lizardmen. Our orc / dwarf player still seems open to AoS. I was 50/50 before, but after todays game i'm even more anxious to see what KoW puts out.

We're still having a hard time balancing out points ... we've tried a couple online vectors but none of them seem all that great. The algorithm methods out there don't work because they don't take into consideration special rules or formations, only raw stats.

Regardless, I think i'm offically putting any fantasy spending on hold ... i might try to trade for one Stormcast Paladin with Glaive simply because i really want to paint the damn thing, but right now i'm just annoyed and frustrated. I have four big to huge Fantasy armies and right now i'm not 100% sure what their future is.

I think it is worse when you do X wounds to a single powerful model, who then does one wound to your guys and then you suffer battle shock because he didn't loose any models but you lost 1 model.

Agreed. There was a scenario where my thundertusk took some damage from plague monks, and in turn did a couple back ; because the monks lost bodies, and my thundertusk didn't (even though the TT took more wounds!), the plague monks evaporated due to battleshock. It was another moment where we found ourselves chatting how the notion of battleshock to speed up the game via static mounting attrition losses is smart, but the ultimate execution [MOD EDIT - Please find a different way to express that - Alpharius].

The tournament coincides roughly with the release of KoW 2.0 so once I've done with the tournament I'll be giving KoW a go.
