So I am really enjoying X-Wing. My
FLGS has a friendly monthly tourney. He even made some custom table tops to put the 3x3 maps on. So I want to do something nice for his shop and the local player base.
In an effort to give back I tend to do things over the top.
In this instance I want to run a giant scenario with cool prizes and fun bonuses and probably free pizza and drinks.
Rebs vs Imps with both sides allowed to recruit Mercs and Scum.
This way everyone can fly the type of ships they like.
8 Players per team.
Both teams have to get to a giant ship in the middle of the board, retrieve an object by boarding the giant ship from their large base ship and then escape.
We will use a 9 by 3 table. Each team will start at the far end maps. However Large base ships get to use the range 3 template from the far edges and snub fighters get to use the range 2 from any outside edge on their map.
So I am figuring the small ships will burn to the middle to try to take out the big base ships before they can dock with the giant ship.
So it should be a huge fun fur-ball.
I am going to put some limits on the fleets though.
One large base ship per team.
No named / unique pilots, ships, cards.
Each fleet gets 250 points to build with and no ship may use more than 7 points of upgrades.
So it will end up a bunch of low and mid
PS guys slugging it out.
Each fleet's large base ship will get a free crew upgrade of Luke for the Rebs and Darth Vader for the Imps. They must be used on the large base ship.
While their large base ships are docked to the giant ship they can not be shot at, nor can they shoot at anything themselves. Any other bonus they generate are still in effect.
To dock with the giant ship, your ship must preform a speed 2 or less maneuver. You can not "Boost" or "Barrel Roll" into docking position.
After retrieving the prize/relic, if your large ship is destroyed. It stays on the table since the other team's large ship may attempt to board and take it. Use the same rules for docking and boarding the giant ship. However they can be shot at but can not shoot back.
If both ships are destroyed you must kill all enemy ships before time is called to win.
If your ship is destroyed, you may reenter play the next turn using the cheapest basic base ship with no upgrades, you were using or in your fleet. So if I was using an Dagger squad b-wing, I can join in the next turn in a Blue squad b-wing or a z-95.
All ships of the same
PS will move at the same time as long as they will not interfere with other ships of the same
PS's movement. So as long as players can get there hands in and get stuff moved around they can. Like guys on opposite sides of the giant ship. Any disputes will be solved via initiative like normal play.
Now for the things I am not to sure on. How should I decide who retrieves the relic/prize from the giant ship?
I do not just want to say first person there gets it.
I was thinking of making them roll for it. Needing 3 crits to find the object and return to your ship to make your escape. That may be impossible though. I am a bit stumped.
I was also thinking of tossing some "defense turrets" out around the giant ship. Basically each asteroid marker rolls 2 dice to damage any ship that lands on or fly's over it. With the giant ship rolling 4 dice each turn trying to generate focus tokens. If the Imps hit a rock and get shot at the Rebs may use a single giant ship focus token to change an eyeball to a hit as normal. The Imps will be able to do the same.
Should the free crew member per team count against the crew slot on the large base ships?
Should I not be so strict in unique pilots and upgrades?
Should I only get pepperoni pizza or maybe some sausage as well?
I appreciate any advice and help you guys can offer.
