That works, though you'll be short some upgrade cards. You should probably get a TIE fighter expansion pack, as it comes with useful pilots.

The Interceptors benefit greatly from autothrusters, which unfortunately can only be found in the Starviper expansion. Your best bet is to just proxy those cards for now, or find someone you can buy/borrow them from.

Imperial Aces has some great cards (push the limit and royal guard title), though you get way too many interceptors out of the deal. Slave 1 also has some good upgrade cards, though the ship itself is of questionable value for Imperial players.

X-wings are, unfortunately, not very good... you would have to build the rebel side of your collection almost from scratch.

Minor point, but I think Autothrusters are in the aggressor too?

Huh, I've only got one Viper, but I could swear I've got 2x Autothrusters.

Ah, cause Vipers come with two copies.

Strong start for imperials, bare bones for rebs. Imperials could use a TIE blister for sure. That plus fel is a strong starting list. 4 TIEs, howlrunner, and soontir fel is a pretty nasty things to face and is fun to fly. You'll want push the limit, which comes with imperial aces and the A Wing. Stealth device and autothrusters are good too, but casual play will do you fine with just Push the Limit on fel.

For rebs, rebel aces, an X Wing blister, and an extra B and A could be a good start. That'll give you a lot of options and some solid ships. X Wings are still good, just use the named pilots like wedge or Biggs. Their abilities are very good when used correctly

If you have a pal who wants to do the Rebel side, you could trade him one set of rules and both the X-Wings and their related cards, then concentrate on building up as an Imperial player.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

More appropriately, you need Push the Limit if you plan on flying TIE Interceptors. I would place Stealth Device high on the pecking order over Autothrusters,

Running a six ship swarm can be overwhelming for a new player. Still, it's good practice learning how to fly in formation so it's something I would recommend trying.

If he already has one Interceptor, two more from Imperial Aces is not too many. A three Interceptor aces list is quite a bit of fun, if a bit difficult to master.
