In my local area, there are a good number of folks who are overwhelmed by all the new formations and detachments, and get frustrated at not knowing what their opponent can do. In an attempt to bring some of these people back into the fold, I want to organize a "Classichammer" tournament. This is no new idea in itself, it's simply only allowing a single CAD. No detachments (other than CAD), no allies, no formations. A single FOC from early 6th edition.

The other variation I want to do, and where I want the community's advice, is threefold:

1. I want to give the LEAST winning armies a 20% bump in points. For example, I plan on running an 1850, which would give some of the usual tournament "scrub" armies 2220 points. I'd propose Blood Angels, Orks, Chaos Marines, and Imperial Guard get this. A few of the mid-tier armies will get a 10% bump, putting them to 2035 points. Tyranids, DE, GK, and Sisters of Battle would get this.

2. I want to allow armies that cannot be played as a CAD (Inquisition, Assassins, Harlequins) to be inserted into either Imperial Armies or DE/Eldar armies in standard FOC slots.

3. I'd like the community's opinion on whether Skitarii and Ad Mech should be separate, or if they should be allowed together as a single Army.

Thanks for the advice folks!

You would probably be better off just running a tournament using 5th edition rules and having people use 5th edition codices (with the old INAT faq) than trying to homebrew a whole new game.

I didn't get into 40k until 6th, so I'd like to stick to familiar territory. Thanks though. Any other thoughts?

The armies you listed as weakest can win but only with certain builds. I wouldn't offer any bonus points. If the player chooses those armies then its on them. I don't see a problem with #2 and 3
