I'm doing this exact thing with a bunch of friends of mine.

Grab a crew, and over a period of X months paint it up whilst building up to a thematic 50SS crew.

I'm game. So would we be sharing our paint work on this thread as well?

I'm not sure what subforum would be best to host it but yea.

Could be a cool idea if you can get enough people interested.

I'm picking up Colette this weekend so will set it aside

That's 5 of us so far. We could do with like 10 people, maybe more.

Well, I've got all the stuff I currently need built.

I still need to decide if I want Hamelin and Misaki.

Really unsure about Hamelin, seems to be a fairly boring and predictable playstyle. Haven't come up against him though so we'll see. Misaki on the other hand is pretty brilliant, and is a lovely looking kit.

I was planning to stick with grems, but now have Hoffman as a painting project, and bought Collodi because that box rules. With Colette coming...

If we can use a built but un painted crew go ahead and add me for a crew. Once we know the start date and "rules" I'll decide who I'm going for. If it's just finish a crew box I have several options but if we're going for a 50ss crew I'm limited to Pariah of Iron Levy.

If we're allowed unpainted crews, I'd be able to start as soon as everyone else. If not, it'll have to wait till I start a new job.

I'd be up for it, I have plenty of crews that need painting still. Most have been glued together already though. if that doesn't count it'll have to wait untill my backlog has been mostly killed in saaay, a year or two .

Would be the attack of crappy pictures though

I think unpainted crews would be fine. There isn't THAT much interesting stuff in building Malifaux models since they're all cut so weirdly it's hard to do much converting on them.

I don't have any rules laid out yet. I just thought it would be fun to do a group build and let people brain storm what they want. If people want to do 50SS then that's fine, I was originally thinking a crew box but 50 SS is only 1 model on top of that.

I'll join. Turns out I need a second Von Schill box anyway. Somehow, SOMEHOW, I lost my Von Schill model. OH WELL, Guess I get a second librarian, trapper and specialist to play with.

Also, as Vassal is a thing, games could be part of it. (I mean, it's not like I want more games with outcasts or anything!)

I'm only just learning the game, but I'd enjoy playing some Vassal games. I think that needs to be optional though, I don't want people feeling pressured to do anything but make some nice models.

If any one uses the Wyrd forum, would it be worth mentioning we might be doing a group build there? See if we can rope some people in.

Maybe look at a start date of November 1st as it gives everyone a chance to order what they need and stores to get their stuff in.

50SS of models.

Models maybe built already, but cannot be painted (primed is acceptable but not a lick of paint beyond it).

I'll DM you some info about setting up some Vassal games if you want.

I've got it set up and used it a few years back to play other games. I just need to find some time and someone willing to put up with me just learning the game.

50SS sounds good to me, I can go either with 50ss or simply a box. No problem here either way. Not sure how important it is to be precise about the amount of ss since with a normal 50ss game there will be upgrades aswell etc. 1st of november sounds good aswell, should give people some time to order stuff if they want/need to.

As far as Vassal goes, count me out on that. spend enough time staring at a pc already

50 SS could be with or without upgrades. It's up to the person making the list. It works out the same either way and no one needs to be so anal as to worry what upgrades people are using outside of their own lists.

Ok sounds like fun. From what I'm seeing the rules are:

November 1 start date
50ss crew, with or without upgrades etc.
No paint, assembled and primed are ok

And guessing on the next few:

2.5 color minimum, if it only needs 2 to look great that's fine but don't cut corners that look bad
Finish the base, a plain black base is fine but no lingering brush marks. Fancier is encouraged but not required.
Provide a starting picture taken on the 1st of November and one at the end of your final results, more regular updates are encouraged.

And then for extra credit try to get a game in with that crew, Vasal is fine.

Winners are those who finish painting their crew, prize is now owning a fully painted 50ss crew that you painted.

2nd place is trying your hardest to finish but you just ran out of time.

Losing is not even trying at all.

I'm game. With a bit if luck, my Wong crew box will be in by then. I think he's an October release.

Wong is late October, not that I looked it up before I put up a start date or anything..

Based would be part of the finished crew objective. If it's not based and varnished (if you don't do that, then that's fine) then it doesn't count as finished.

Is 2.5 colours necessary? I would consider a shade, base and highlight to be minimum acceptable standard. Other than Von Schill's stuff, is it even possible to paint a Malifaux crew in just 2 colours and not completely ignore large parts of the model?

Palitine Il

That's kind of what I meant by 2.5, either a single color with shading (void things and hungering darkness work great like this from what I've seen.) or various materials picked out in diffrent colors (leather, skin, metal, etc. in diffrent colors)

Basically the painting looks done.

*Looks at Kirai's spirits on his desk* Yup, it's possible to use one color and make a model look finished . That crew aside, isn't it simpler to say "It has to look finished and based" rather than name a number of paints that need to be on the model?

Difficult thing though, which master to go for, so much choice, so much choice. It's a good thing there's some time still to decide.

I updated the first post and title since we have this rolling now. I went through the thread and added everyone who said they wanted to take part.

Is it worth posting about it on the Wyrd forums or any other communities? See if we can draw this up. Getting 10-15 people means even with drop outs we will still have enough to make a good showing.

Ok, I'm planing on doing a Levy crew using models I have. Currently it's the 2e box, 3 necropunks, a flesh construct, and 2 large steampunk arachnids. For the spiders I'm planing on using a 1e metal and the 2e brass arachnid (Ramos' totem that can't fit on a 30mm) that is just as big. Will anyone have a problem with this or do I need to pick up something else?

It's your crew mate. As long as you're happy with it, no one else matters.

I need to get a picture of my mosquito when they're done. I've pinned them flying on the base. You could probably pin it so it looks like it's leaping forward to attack, or build a scenic base and have it climbing up something. I think you could find some 30mm wide cake toppers that would look like roman pillars and would have it climbing around it.

I'm still doubting between Pandora, Hoffman, Zoraida and Levi. As it looks now Pandora might be the chosen victim but not entirely sure yet. She would look best in pink out of all the crew though .

Btw Chaotic, it's possible to fit the brass arachnid on a 30mm base, if you bend and cut and generally reposition the rear 4 legs. It's a genuine pain that one. But in general I don't think that proxies etc should be a problem, it's you who wants to play and make the crew, no one here is going to tell you how to build or paint your own models.

I hear Pandora can be trouble, if you open her box nothing good can come of it...
