Hello all,
I am new to the forum but a long time fan of Lord of the Rings. After taking a break from miniatures
For a while my son has got me back into them as he love the hobbit. His birthday
Is coming up and we got him the escape from Goblin town starter set.
We plan on putting together the figures to game the Battle of Five armies on a smaller scale.
I do not like the GW laketown figures because they are to Eastern for my taste. I have attached pictures
Of the first figure I made for this guys. He will be my Bard the bowman. He was made from gripping beast plastic
Saxons and wargames factory plastic Vikings.

Oh, no! Looks like you glued him to the base upside down.

Seriously, though, that looks pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of the movie Laketown figures either.

Thanks , not sure why it posted the picture twice and upside down ! Here are the first four figures of Bard's company
As described by Tolkien when Smaug attacks laketown. They are armed with spears and bows.

Looks good! I used GB's saxons as actual saxons with WAB, but the poses made ranking up on 20mm square bases a nightmare. Looks like they're much more suited to LotR's 25mm rounds! (Or, as the case may be, GB's Saga. ) You make me want to take a second look at them.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Looks good, definitely more akin to what was in my head when I read the book. I don't have a problem with how they appear in the film, as it gives them a distinct visual identity like the other human factions, but these certainly fit the bill.

They do look just a bit like the Rohirim, but IIRC(?) the people of Dale and Laketown are supposed to be decended from the same human groups as the people of Rohan, so that works, I think.

I may go this way, rather than buying a dozen or more of the pricey "offical" Laketown and Dale warriors.

There are some decent proxy available from the perry's as well. They are called something along the lines of angry Russian peasents. They look kind of like the guys in the films. I dont have any at the moment but I plan on getting some at some point.
