The ?SQUEEGEE? bonus<?
It happens to everyone, you play a game and then a couple days after the fact it is discovered that you and/or your opponent played a key rule incorrectly. It?s not that anyone was cheating, its just no one caught a major issue during the game. What to do?
In environments such as Leagues and Tourneys where the ultimate measuring stick is your win/loss ratio the fairest course of action would be to replay the game.
However in the Expansion Campaign, really all that matters is how many of the various points you have accumulated over time. Whether you actually win or loss a particular engagement is irrelevant, with the exception of Control Missions.
Thus, if X-Cam games are replayed because someone is ?Squeegeed? (i.e. hurt by a miss-read of the rules) The squeegee victim is actually hurt worse than if he just played a different game. i.e. Last week he played, got sqeegeed, but still managed to score 20 VP. This week, if he replays, he?ll loose the 20 VP?s he gained last week because the game won?t count. Then, let?s say he does better and scores 30 VP?s. He?d still have been better off just playing the person in a new game:
Ignoring the Squeegee:
- Week 1: 20 VP
- Week 2: 30 VP
- Total VP after 2 Weeks: 50 VP
Taking a Replay:
- Week 1: 0 VP (Ignored for the Replay)
- Week 2: 30 VP
- Total VP after 2 Weeks: 30 VP
But we really can?t just totally ignore Squeegees, because that just doesn?t seem right. We want to encourage folks to spend a little time reading the rules and getting it right. And if someone does get squeegeed by mistake, they should get a little something.
So, I?m introducing the ?Squeegee? bonus: If a player feels he got the shaft on a rules issue, either he or his opponent can appeal to the X-Cam admin for a Squeegee bonus. The bonus gives the victim 10 bonus VP for the game played. So under this rule there is a third option for the above two examples:
Squeegee Bonus:
- Week 1: 20 VP
- Squeege Discovered +10 VP added to Week 1
- Week 2: 30 VP
- Total VP after 2 Weeks: 60 VP
Note the Squeegee bonus can only be used for Recon and Strategic actions. Control actions are really all about the Win, so in the case of a Control mission if the looser is squeegied he may request a rematch.
I think this is the fairest way to handle such events, and will be helpful since we are all still learning this game and can expect a few more such issues as we work through the rules and various scenarios.
Recipients of the Squeegee bonus:
- Ted McGlynn received +10 VP in Jump Gate Escape: Tim exited the Jump Gate without first making ?contested? roles.
- Pete Eisenhauer received +10 VP in Supply Ships: Russ moved the transports in normal movement sequence. They should all be moved before any other cap ships move.
