So yeah, came across a couple rhinos and a finecast vanguard veteran squad for dirt cheap, and decided I'm finally going to break down and start a little Lamenters force that I've always wanted.

So, I've been out of 40k for a long time, what would be the most appropriate models for a Lamenter's force? I know they're a blood angel's successor chaptor but do you really need blood angels models or do the Lamenters use more typical spacemarine stuff? Also, what units are they really known for using? I figured they'd have a higher amount of veteran units, dreadnaught, stuff like that, since they can't replenish their numbers, and no scouts or any of the new models like centurions.

I figured I'd get a couple tac squads, run em as vets of some kind, maybe a dreadnaught, and maybe a devestator squad and call it a day. I also have some dark vengeance bikers laying around that I could probably mod to make work, I just wasnt sure if they really used bikes or anything.

I'd run them as backup for my Imperial Guard infantry army so obviously I'm not concerned about super cutthroat play, I'd just like to get stuff that really makes sense thematically for the Lamenters to have, and stuff that looks good. Really want a cool "last stand" feel for the army.

So yeah does anyone have some good ideas for stuff to get? I know the fluff for Lamenters kind of well but don't really know how they work gamewise. I really don't plan on taking more than a token ally force so I'm not planning on going nuts with this.

Aren't the Lamentors one of the chapters wiped out (or nearly wiped out) by nids?

So a force focused on vets and dreads (survivors) might make sense fluff wise.

Or one focused on scouts (rebuilding).

They're on a repentance crusade so they're not allowed to replenish numbers to my knowledge. So no scouts unless they're the slowest learner in the space marines I would think.

For Lamenters (and any BA successor chapter), it's always officially been that you use all the units contained within the Blood Angels codex and just paint them up in the colour scheme of the successor chapter. Unfortunately, it means no vanilla marine stuff like centurions and storm talons etc.

In regards to units they would use fluffwise. Lots of veterans I would imagine and if I was doing a Lamenters army I would look up the Forgeworld rules for Malakim Phoros, the Lamenters chapter master and look to do some cool conversion work to build him.

Also, the Lamenters are known for their really unnatural bad luck, so if you ever lose a game, you can say that it is in keeping with their fluff
