I've always wanted to run an army of dragons without riders and I'm wondering if the lore my army would fit Age of Sigmar

The Empire of dragons, also known as the (name is wip), was formed after the destruction of the old world during the reunification of the forces of Order by Sigmar. A lone drake of unknown(for now) origins whose physical self was reformed came across Sigmar and the Dracothian and pledged his loyalty to them, beleving the Dracothian to be a god figure to dragons. The lone dragon was then tasked with seeking out the souls/spirits of the various dragons of the Old World and help reincarinate their physical selves in exchange for loyalty to Sigmar. The many dragons he saved hail from a variety of backgrounds, some of which were wild dragons, while some served as mounts for the various elven factions.Although the dragons fight for the Alliance of Order, they for the most part reside in their own enclaves in Azyr, keeping clear of the wars of Chaos unless the situation becomes dire or their own society is threatened.

Is there anything I should remove, change or add to make it better fit in the lore? Any suggestions for models and rules?(I will use any miniature from any company)

I think you should do this, do it now, and then post pics

Your lore fits perfectly - the Realms are certainly large enough to handle it. In fact, if you were mad (!) have dragons in every realm, tied to each faction. The Dragons of Destruction would be interesting!

As for rules, I would suggest simply taking existing dragon-based War Scrolls, and just ignore anything that references riders (attacks and special rules). This is pretty much what we are doing for roaming creatures in the Realm of Beasts...

Hey, BobtheConquistador, long time no see!

Really great idea for a dragon army. Hope we get to see it one day.

If you can get a battle going with a dragon ogre army you can have a epic backstory for a battle taking place at the beginning of the old world.

Hahaha nice to see you here from the Empire

The army will probably come into fruition sooner then most people will expect as Reaper's bone line's plastic dragons will be the ideal for my wallet(less than 1/4 of the price of GW's dragons, 10x the quality)

But as for the lore of the dragons, I was thinking the dragon that founded the Empire, was once a human wizard apprentice that studied the lore of beasts, and primarily took the form of a dragon when in battle; he was also a nobleman(and Hetman)'s son from Kislev, but lost his estate to a Chaos incursion and thus dedicated his life to fighting Chaos. During an expedition to Lustria, he was cursed by an Old One(who sensed his hatred for chaos) to turn into a Dragon whenever there is a significant presence of Chaos(and Skaven) nearby . And of course, during the End Times, there were Chaos Warriors and Skaven all over the Old World.

And during the Age of Sigmar, he was then trapped in his dragon form when he pledged his allegiance to Sigmar...

An alternate backstory is that he is the reborn soul of a High Elf prince that fused with his Dragon mount in a manner similar to that of Malekith and his dragon, but was not made into a god...

Which backstory do you guys think is better?

I definitely like the first story. The cursed angle really works well with a growing backstory.

Also, Reaper miniatures are a great choice! Really awesome quality.

A question though, what happened to your earlier imperial expedition plans? Did your brave explorers not survive the old world's demise?

Yup, they did survive the End Times, though I'm waiting more for more lore regarding the normal humans of the Old World, especially those of the none Empire ilk.
