I have been thinking about getting some Bretonnians for a few years now and AoS have awoken those thoughts again.

As I see it I have three choices.

1. Buy the current GW models (and if I do this at a FLGS this weekend I'll get 20% off)
2. Wait. New models could be super cool (and it's about damn time). But they may also be something I don't like (or squatted)
3. Buy 3rd party models (probably from fireforge-games)

I'm not planning on a big force. Maybe around 40-50 models when I'm done. My goal with the army is friendly games and having something different to paint from time to time.

What would you recommend?

(And please, no discussions/claims/namecalling about particular game systems or whatnot)

There is no promise of a update soon. So i would say grab the models you LOVE not the ones you think you will need. For me it was valten collection, love them in my collection and if they get replaced cool. But if they get discontined..... Well there is a extra 50 on ebay for them lol.

I need to go to work every day.

I would not expect any new models for the ol' Brets.

As above, buy the ones you love.

Pretty sure Brets and Empire (who are now both the "free people") are going to get the biggest changes aesthetically.

But grab the boxes you love because there are no army books so your warscrolls will never become invalid/out-of-date :-)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Ooooh, I hadn't seen those Fireforge games ones before, they are nice.

Go for those.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Not to mention there are some crazy sales on some of these guys. 50% or more off if you're a ace shopper.

I'd say buy what you like aesthetically, if that means using GW or other minis. Bret's won't be updated for at least a year (only one more AOS army being re-done this year, then it's 40k getting updated again).

The warscrolls will be the same no matter if the sculpt is new or old, so buy now so you can play now. You can always update later or ebay your old models to finance the new GW ones.

I agree, I like those non gw models that were posted earlier in this thread too. They look far less cartoony and would look great along side the Bret king mini from GW.

If you buy 3rd party, get game zone Bret equivalents, they are slightly bigger in scale that will match up with the current sigmas scale.

The current Brets are fantastic models as well; 5th Ed one are cool but will be smaller in scale.

There is not this idea.

Like Talys said, if you keep your eyes out you can find some sweet deals right now. The Bret battalion box has some very nice models in it, and the sprues come with a bunch of neat extra bits that can add a lot of personality.
