I own three Eldar Falcons which I have been running as a Cloudstrike Squadron. So far, the reliable deepstrike to unload an Aspect Host of what is currently two 6 man Dire Avengers and one 6 man Fire Dragon squads with the BS 5 and morale rerolls seems powerful as is and worth it. This gives versatility and lots of power, but no objective secured (which cost me my last match) and sometimes I don't get my units as early as I like as I don't like taking Autarchs. I was just thinking would it be worth it to purchase 2 more squads of Fire Dragons for the chance to bust 4 units or vehicles/mcs, or 1-2 really hard ones? Do people think in the meta this is too much firepower focused in one direction? Depending on options/upgrades of which I consider holofields a must for the unit, we're looking at 850 points or more for the unit, which is almost half of my army for the points level we play around here (2000 pts).

Here's a succinct list:
Falcon Squadron - 3 Falcons, each with Holofields. Weapon upgrades: either upgrade for 2nd Shuriken Cannon, or buy Bright Lances/Starcannons.
Aspect Host - 3 Firedragon Squads with 6 models, each has an Exarch with either a Fusion Gun or a Firepike.

The precision deepstriking and unloading the firepower is great, but part of me feels mixing up the aspect host may be better. Also the options of either anti-tank, anti-mek, or anti-gek are all inviting, depending on what I want. What do you all think?

This would be played alongside a generally mobile Eldar army: Windriders, a Skyrunner Farseer, 1-2 Waveserpents and likely a Wraithknight of some order.

I'm pretty sure there would be no point in so many dragon squads coming in together, any decent opponent would never leave enough targets close enough to each other to make it worth it. I would keep the avengers in the other falcons to get rid of any bubble wrap they put around the tanks and try and protect the dragons/ falcons from the counter attack. One squad dragons and 3 falcons with lances should be enough anti tank in one place.

That is what I was thinking. It would really only be useful against parking lot armies, or large units of 2+ save models. roflmajog, do you think the Aspect Host formation is worth the BS 5 and other bonuses when the Dire Avengers could have objective secured in my CAD? Obviously I could edge in other Aspect troops and put them elsewhere, but I did lose a game yesterday as my Cloudstrike Squadron didn't come in until turn 3 and my 2 troops from my CAD were either destroyed or engaged in CC. As it is I could just put them in my CAD, I have room for the units.

That would defeat the purpose of a mobile Eldar army, although for a different kind of list I could see that working. Though if I did it, I would scratch build some Eldary buildings to the same size and say "counts as" so they don't have to camp on Imperial filth.

I think its a powerful formation.

One thing to consider is its a vehicle squadron, so the falcons can be 4" from the first one.

You can do:

[Falcon Longways]-4"- [Falcon Longways]-4"- [Falcon Longways] iirc the length of a falcon is 7" so this covers 29"

You can then deploy the firedragons 6" from the hatches, you can end up deploying two of the firedragon squads 35" apart if you wanted.

You really should spend points on an autarch in this list, the reserves manipulation for so many points is pretty key. Can drop one of the firedragon squads to 5 models, and put autarch with fusion blaster with them- since he does not have to be on the table to modify reserves.

But I tend to agree its pretty overkill, I would do 2 squads of dragons, 1 squad of dire avengers. Outside of triple knights or something, 3 firedragon units + 3 falcons is a lot of fire power. use the Dire avengers to clear out bubblewrap on tanks, or to kill contents of a transport if you blow one up. Based on positioning being able to get them infront of the firedragons to soak up a counter charge to tie your dragons up would be useful.

Unless you have a meta wherein there are routinely 3 super heavy vehicles to kill, I can't imagine this being very efficient.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.
