Ok, I have a Balance of Terror event this weekend. Ideally big ships with 360 weapons would be the perfect thing but for more fun I was thinking something like

24 Defiant
04 Sisko
05 Fleet Captain (crew)
00 Attack Pattern Omega
02 Type 8 Phasers
02 Systems Upgrade
03 Paris
02 Riker
03 Amat'Igan
02 Quark (Multi Adaptive Shields)
03 (hidden Quantum Torpedoes)

22 Enterprise
05 Janeway
05 Cheat Death
05 Admiral Kirk
03 (hidden card Cheat Death)
02 Type 8 Phasers
02 Systems Upgrade
04 Spock
02 Valtaine

20 Fed Fighters

It is a crazy mixed bag, but it seem like a fun way to get all of my Fav captains on the table in an effective way. I know the Defiant build works ok. I threw in Quark to save some points. The Quantums could be a nice surprise for someone that tries to get behind me Enterprise with Janeway could be fun, double scan for -2 defense dice BS and a 2 rerolls. The list doesn't pack a lot of firepower but it seems survivable and has some quality.

Then there is this

30 Voyager
06 Picard
05 Fleet Captain (crew)
00 Talent ??
02 Riker
03 Paris
02 Chekov
02 Systems Upgrade

30 Prometheus
06 Khan
03 Admiral Hayes
02 Amat'Igan
01 Quark (Multi Adaptive Shields)
02 Systems Upgrades
06 Dorsal Phaser Array

20 Fed Fighters

Both big ships are very maneuverable with 360s so it will be difficult for people to predict the moves. Voygaer gets 4 defense dice, Prometheus gets 3. Pikard is skill 10 so he can blast off shields for Khan to do his thing with BS crits and the fighters can mop up.

List 2 seems more effective, but list 1 seems more fun. What do you guys think? I haven't abandoned my Romulans, just trying something different for a while and focusing on what seem fun. I have been thinking Klingons for a while but haven't pinned down a list.

For the Klingons, I like the idea of running a brel swarm, or even a K'Tinga squadron.

I personally like the Voyager and Prometheus build better. it seems pretty well balanced between survivability and combat effectiveness.

Well as it went down we only had 3 people show up. So we chucked out the scenario and played a 3 player game. We had to call it after an hour because one guy had to run. It was fun and all of us went home with an Intrepid so it was a good day

Though the morning of I was throwing this Klingon list around

30 Neg'Var
06 Martok 9
03 Hidden card (Klingon Stealth Team)

26 Vor'Cha
05 Kor 8
05 Klingon Fleet Captain
00 Defense Condition One
01 Klag
03 Hidden card (Drex)

28 Mat'H'A
03 Worf
04 N'garen
03 Quark (Projected Stasis Field)
03 Hidden Card (Projected Stasis Field)

If all goes as planned Worf hits something with Stasis field and Fleet Captain lets Martok use Stealth team as free action. Klingons get to attack with a skill 9 and 10. Not much in the way of defense but I could take out a big threat on the first pass. It still needs testing though.

I contemplated doing 4 Vor'Chas with Projected stasus field each. that way each one can drop a field a round, the other three fire on it. Anything that can survive 15 attack dice is something that should not be allowed to live a second turn... lol

4 Vor'Chas could bring on some hurt. It might not be a bad idea to throw in Kor 6 to draw fire from the others.

Kor six is from which ship? I am still missing the Ch'Tang...

Ok, I have to look through my Klingon stuff again. I think I have everything retail at least 1 of, and I have the Korinar and the Assimilated BoP.

So I have 3 ideas for my event tonight:

Idea #1

USS Thunderchild-28
Jean-Luc Picard-6
Admiral Hayes-3
Hikaru Sulu-3
Dorsal Phaser Array-5
System Upgrade-2
Imersion Shielding-3
Total: 50

USS Reliant-20
James T. Kirk-5
System Upgrade-2
William T. Riker-3
Type 8 Phaser Array-2
Unimatrix Shielding-5
Total: 37

Federation Fighter Squadron 6-24
Support Ship-4
Attack Wave-4
Total:32

Grand Total:119

I like this one for the sheer fact that it is a total departure from my normal bare bones swarm tactics. I am running all Unique ships, with high skill captains, and the ability to throw a decent amount of defense dice and attack dice (SURPRISE! the Reliant is throwing 6 dice at range 1!)

Idea #2

USS Thunderchild-28
Jean-Luc Picard-6
Hikaru Sulu-3
Dorsal Phaser Array-5
Total: 42

Akira-Class #1-26
James T. Kirk-5
Dorsal Phaser Array-5
Total:36

Akira-Class #2-26
Mr. Spock-4
Admiral Hayes-3
William T. Riker-3
Dorsal Phaser Array-5
Total:41

Grand Total: 119

This one allows Hayes to grant his buff to Attack to all of the allied ships instead of just one, Kirk can gak any pesky upgrades, and with Dorsal phaser array all three ships maneuver where ever they please. Again, high skill captains with decent firepower to boot.

Idea #3

Bok's Marauder-22
Bok-4
Missile Launchers-3
EM Pulse-4
Total: 33

Kreechta-22
Bractor-4
Missile Launchers-3
EM Pulse-4
Total: 33

D'kora-Class #1-20
Missile Launchers-3
EM Pulse-4
Total: 27

D'kora-Class #2-20
Missile Launchers-3
EM Pulse-4
Total: 27

Grand Total:120

This list is kind of just there so I can bring out my Ferengi. I felt they would be fun since they aren't seen on the table often, so why not?

Any suggestions would be great. I have a tourney tonight 6:30 pm local, then again at 11:00am on Saturday.

I like list 1 & 3. List 1 has good stuff all around no issues there. List 3 seems fun, though unless you expect lots of fighters I might swop out some missile launches for photons. I have nothing really against list 2 the other just appeal to me more.

SO after the tournament last night, I think I am going to go with List #1 on
Saturday. Between the fact that I arrived late and couldn't find any of my Miranda-Class
ships, and the fact that I couldn't proxy two copies of System Upgrade (I substituted Tom
Paris... Total waste of points) I ran List #2... It didn't go badly, it just could have been better.

First game was against a new player who already knows the way to build
fairly good lists, so I was up against a decked out Prometheus with Fleet
captain and Ahab Picard, a Decked out Voyager with Janeway, and a stand of
the Unique fed fighters. I had him pretty well out maneuvered most of the
game, nearly killed the Prometheus before it ran away (out of range for the
remainder, and my Akira's lack the speed to catch up to a fleeing
Prometheus. Voyager took a beating, but eventually got out of range before I
could finish her... and then flew off the board. the Fighters were wittled
down to 2 tokens, but never really did much against me. Before she died,
Janeway definated lit me up, Killing Kirk and wounding Picard.
Combined with the 3 times I guessed correctly, I scored 73 points in the
first round.

Second game was a horror show: My opponent was running three Vorchas With
Captain Kemtoc, Martok (Negh'Var), and Gowron. All three ships had Projected
Stasis Field, and Kemtoc had x2 Cloaked mines as well, and all three had
Klingon Tactical officer. There were other upgrades as well, but I don't
remember them. Round two, he deployed the cloaked mines, then we both swung
up at range 1, point blank range... And He projected stasis fields onto both Spock and Kirk.
And once the shooting started, that's when the nightmare began. Picard ripped into Gowron,
shredding him down to 2 hull. But then Martok and Kemtoc both fired at range 1, with *6* dice.
Projected Stasis field actually reduces your attack by two dice, so he shouldn't have been able
to do that, but I forgot and ended up taking 4 damage to both ships. Round three, the Minefields
managed to reach out and touch all three of my ships because I misjudged where range 3 was.
He finished off Kirk and Spock over the next two rounds, while I killed Gowron and wounded
Kemtoc to 1 hull. The round that Spock died, my opponent revealed a second Elite talent upgrade
on a ship that had only paid for 1 (Fleet captain grants a free Elite talent, but only if you have the
ability to equip one, and only if you take one from what I understand), which was an illegal build, which
according to the scenario rules, automatically destroys the ship. After Spock died and Picard wiffed
for the third shot in a row, I was frustrated and walked away from the table, as I could tell I was being
a bad sport (I have been easily annoyed a lot lately due to work, and it was affecting my game). I came
back, wiffed in the final round when firing on Kemtoc.

We skipped the third game as we each were getting a prize ship anyway, and it was already after 10pm.

I was very disappointed to see so much cheating shenanigans (most of which I didn't catch until after the game)
from someone I play fairly often. But, it did give me some notes for the next round.

That's a shame about the klingon player. It sounds like if could have been a good match if he would have been playing right. I think he would have been ok depending on who had the fleet captain. If someone has a talent slot and the fleet captain adds one, he can either take one for free or pay for two. closest thing I can think of is:

26 Vor'Cha
05 Martok
02 tac officer
03 (hidden PSF)

26 Vor'Cha
04 Gowron
02 tack officer
03 (hidden PSF)

26 Vor'Cha
03 K'Temoc
05 Fleet captain (tech)
01 Tac Officer
03 (hidden PSF)
01 Cloaked Mines
01 Cloaked Mines

that is 111, so he could have 9 points for talents. I don't know what he had but with K'tomec he could take two 5 point talents because of his discount. Two Defense Condition Ones would be nasty in this list. He can even take one for free on K'Tomec and pay for one on Martock.
