Hey guys. Im new to the whole WFB/AoS scene and I was hoping you guys could help me out by giving me some advice on where I should start with getting into the background and stories. Where do I start and what major characters do I need to get to know in order to get the best bang for my buck? I love reading and I have probably picked a kinda bad time to get into the scene as far as wanting to catch up on things goes. LOL. So, where do I need to start? I already have a few models that I bought and luckily they were Khorne related models as I hear some might not be any good anymore. Any tips are appreciated! Thanks.

I would say there are three ways;

1. If you are after miniatures as well as reading, you cannot really beat the starter set.

2. If you want a general overview of events and characters, along with rules & scenarios, the Age of Sigmar Hardback.

3. If you just want a good read, the Gates of Azyr novel(la) is a decent start, but would recommend you quickly get hold of War Storm and then Ghal Maraz, as they are crackingly good reads!

What about the previous "Worlds" or realms or whatever it was called? The end times I believe is what it was. Id like to learn about how the age of sigmar came to be I guess is what I am getting at. I already have some miniatures.... Khorne is Awesome so I couldnt pass up the Blood Warriors from the starter set and then bought the kit but havent put it together yet. The only reason I know about the End Times is because of a model I bought, The Wrathmonger/Skullreaper set. I also have the skull crushers. Gave 60 bucks for those 3 only 3 weeks ago and now I could get 6 for a little more. That sucks. LOL

Ooo, that is a lot of reading, potentially

The End Times books are a good read (might recommend you dive into the novels rather than the gaming books, if you are not going to be playing WHFB and just want to know what happened - they will be cheaper too).

The downside is that this may get you wanting to know what happened before that, and this would be the rabbit's hole There area lot of Warhammer Fantasy novels set in the World That Was, and a lot of them are very good.

Would suggest you start with the End Times novels, and then see if you want to know more. The Gotrek and Felix books might be a good place to begin that journey...

Here's a brief overview of the world that was: http://whfb.lexicanum.com/wiki/Warhammer_world

Lexicanum has information about all things warhammer, including the end times, so it's a good place to start.

Agreed that Gotrek and Felix are the best novels to get yourself into the old world setting.

Here's links to additional places with the information tropes wiki.

Then we have 1d4chan.... good site for sum ups but it is controlled by neckbeards and fellows from the dark corners of the internet...
