WHy is this happening? Is it as simple as solidifying the Tau as an army and for uniformity sake. SO for the average and new customer they see the alien space marines instead of an alien conglomerate.

Why I think this is bad. Lack of diversity in the line, and removal established alien allies in addition to space marine-iffying the tau range. Yes it has happened before i know.

It's basically me complaining, but I'd much rather see the stormsurge have been a Vespid Queen in a giant suit controlling swarms of 20+ drones flying around it.

Having the ghost keel piloted by the kroot and so on.

Ermmm.... so your concerned Kroot and Vespid aren't going to be in the codex?

Well I haven't seen any rumours to suggest this. If they are removed then like with Harlequins i doubt GW would leave you too long with no rules for your auxiliaries.

I wouldn't panic and start making posts like this yet.

"That's how a Luna Wolf fights."
"If you can't keep up, go and join the Death Guard"
"It had often been said that Space Marines knew no fear, but when Angron charged, he ran"

It's more so the expanding of the tau range without the expansion/addition of the allied range.

Yeah i dont see GW cutting kroot & vespid. I think that a lot of Tau players just got their hopes WAY up about a kroot army. Like they do EVERY edition. Its becming so predictable & so sad. Thr most the kroot & vespids will get is 2, maybe 3 formations.

Well yes, the main army of the faction should get more units than some hired mercenaries used in limited roles. This is like complaining that IG got a new tank kit instead of another techpriest model.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

To be fair, the Vespids are mostly located on all of one planet, so they won't be a major force in the empire as a whole.

As for the Kroot, well we already have a lot of Kroot goodies, it's just they're all baked into one blob of nothing. I'd actually be happy if they just let Krootox be their own unit that didn't take up force org slots, but could only be taken based on if you took a Kroot squad or not. As in, you can have a squad of Krootox only if you took a squad of Kroot, and you need a squad of Kroot for each Krootox squad. At least that would make Krootox more playable, as currently they just clash too much with their squad. Heck, they could even say something like the Krootox squad needs X Kroot in a squad per Krootox, so at 10 Kroot you can take one Krootox, for 15 Kroot you get two Krootox, and for 20 Kroot you get 3.

They could even make a formation that does that last bit, but gives you free Krootox, kind of like the Space Marines getting Rhinos. All of a sudden there's a really good reason to spam Kroot on the table. Call it the "Well Paid Mercenary" formation, since the more points you dump into your Kroot, the more goodies you get.

I think the concept of allies as a unique and distinctive feature of the Tau was lost after 5th Edition, when everyone could mix and match allies to their liking.

In GW logic: If you want allies, use an allied detachment from another Codex.

If (big if!) Kroot et al. get redone/expanded, it is not unlikely they would get the Harlequins-mini-Codex-treatment. If that assumption is true, their seeming inclusion in the Tau dex would mean there are no immediate plans to do anything with them (see Dark Eldar dropping Harlequins half a year or so before the Harly-codex hit).
