Returning 40K player here. I played back in 3rd edition for a few years, but left due to school/work/money constraints. I didn't leave the universe completely because I did play several of the PC games over the years (Dawn of War, Space Marine etc.), But most of all I do miss playing the tabletop game.

I've purchased the Dark Vengeance Starter set (and am working on painting), and I can see by browsing through the rule book that the game has changed quite a bit over the years. I used to play a full Legion of the Damned army based off the White Dwarf article if anyone remembers it...I wish I still had my army I suppose this time around I will be playing Dark Angels and Crimson Slaughter for a time, until I get the new rules down. Back in 3rd edition I liked the idea of playing Orks, Necrons, Space Wolves, or Tyranids, but just couldn't afford it at the time. Maybe if I can find some good deals on eBay I will. Grey Knights look interesting as well.

I've been browsing looking for some online communities for tabletop gamers and came across DakkaDakka, so hopefully I"m in the right spot I've also picked up some podcasts (The Overlords, Independent Characters) to listen to while I paint. Once my army is painted and ready I will start looking for some venues to play at. I know there is a Games Workshop in my city, but I don't know if it's just a retail store or if they do any gaming there...
Anyways nice to meet everyone!

P.S. I'm also looking at getting into the X-Wing Miniatures game as well.

Hi. Welcome to Dakka

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Just thought I'd say in addition, I would recommend taking it one army at a time. I know there are a lot of cool ones that you want to do. But if you do too much at once you'll end up with mounds of unpainted minis and have no will to paint them all. Trust me, I've done that before. it's not fun. Good luck with your armies.

Greetings!

I see you're hitting the ground running with a list of armies you'd like to collect. Its great to have goals, and lofty ones at that
