GW seem to be pushing just getting the campaign book if you already have the current codex, will you be doing that?

What are your intentions and reasons?

Does anyone know much about the difference in the content of each book?

What's the point? You paid 30 quid for the 'dex in 6th, why pay 45 to supplement that when you can pay another 30 for the new one? Savings, my friend.

Because the supplement contains more.

With the information we have, though, if you only play Tau and not SM (specifically RG and WS) then you're better off getting the codex. If you DO or plan too, then the campaign is worth getting.

I won't be as I don't play Tau nor RG/WS. But if I did I'd probably buy it.

Sales are entirely subjective to Chapters.
I know one RG player, quite sad.

I expect the sales of the campaign to be driven by sales to SM players rather than Tau ones
