Quick question. I am looking at the starter sets. My question is which one? The force awakens or the original. Are they compatible? Or are they different games? I tried Google but found nothing on compatible.

They they are compatible and they are both good deals. The game has not changed with the new core set other than the rules are written a little tighter to make up for the three years of new stuff added to the game since the first core set was released.

The damage deck from the new core set will be mandatory in competitive play starting in January 2016, but you do not need it for casual and friendly games.

I would pick first on preference, would you rather have original star wars ships or the force awakens ships?

The force awakens ships are slightly stronger and cost a bit more than the original tie fighters and x-wing.

There is 1 unique upgrade card in the original set (R2-D2) and the force awaken set has 3 unique cards currently.

One helpful website is the x-wing wiki, if you scroll to the bottom of the home page it shows you all the boosters and what each contains, it is very helpful.

Pilot card Luke and Dark Curse also unique to the old starter.

Thanks, I went ahead and ordered both. They were on sale at Amazon for $25 a pop and went ahead and bought both.

Nice move... you'll still want a X-Wing and TIE Fighter individual expansion... eventually. There are nice upgrades in each that are not in the base set for the game. This is also true for the T-70 and TIE-FO when they become available.
