I love the models that come from this line but I want to know if the game is any good before I buy a bunch of stuff... Any opinions out there?

H.B.M.C.- The end hath come! From now on armies will only consist of Astorath, Land Speeder Storms and Soul Grinders!
War Kitten- Vanden, you just taunted the Dank Lord Ezra. Prepare for seven years of fighting reality...
koooaei- Emperor: I envy your nipplehorns. <Magnus goes red. Permanently>
Neronoxx- If our Dreadnought doesn't have sick scuplted abs, we riot.
Frazzled- I don't generally call anyone by a term other than "sir" "maam" "youn g lady" "young man" or " HEY bag!"
Ruin- It's official, we've ran out of things to talk about on Dakka. Close the site. We're done.
mrhappyface- "They're more what you'd call guidlines than actual rules" - Captain Roboute Barbosa
Steve steveson- To be clear, I'd sell you all out for a bottle of scotch and a mid priced hooker.

I am pretty sure this answer is different for everyone. I enjoy the fluff, enjoy the models, enjoy the game. Combine those and I have a good time smashing Horus into the enemy.

The game is, in my opinion, by far superior to 40k.

They do actual playtesting and rules are, in comparison, logical and consistent. There are OP things, but nothing like Eldar. There are underpowered things, but nothing like CSM.

Can I get a quick sum up of the legions?

The legions all pull from the same units so are very similar. Some legions have very good rules while others range to meh. The best legions I would say are Imperial Fists, Iron Hands, and Alpha Legion. But the margin isn't crazy huge like power levels in 40k. Read 1d4chan for a summary. Not always the best place to go but gives you an idea.

I personally find it enjoyable more balanced and thought through
I did like aesthetics of legionaries so went full ham on forgeworld minis and I find it worth every penny and pricing of HH rulebooks aren't that bad. Alpha legion and word bearers are kinda top drawn legions if you value winning over theme. Only minus imho is high entry point as fun starts with 1800p lowest and 2000p being a solid start.

From what I hear, it's really cool. I actually want to get into it, but I don't know if I should or not, as I mostly like Tau, and don't even really have a place to play 40k, yet less 30k.

I'll pluck you like a flower.

When you start playing 30k, the question becomes whether 40k is worth playing.

They both use 40k rules, but the array of armies in 30k is much better balanced than the array of 40k codices. (That being said, we play 30k armies vs. 40k codices fairly regularly, especially the Ork codex)

I imagine the biggest concern getting into 30k would be finding other 30k players to play against. Make sure you do that before starting a new army!

I play 30k mechanicum.

I love the system. Functions well with a logical basis in the rules and is largely consistent with my view of the canon.

Also, I routinely play against 40k armies (more even than I play against other 30k armies) and it usually works out just fine.

I always play against 40k armies. I find it a lot of fun. The options you are presented are amazingly good. There is no one or two power builds and you can screw with your regular opponents by playing something different every time. My group was used to me playing a drop pod army and I had finished painting a Spartan and wanted to give an armored/terminator company a whirl, Vets of the Legion RoW and spammed AV 14 and 13 with heavy weapons to match. Wasn't quite what they had prepared for and I enjoyed picking apart their castle from long range instead of the short range firefight they tailored for.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

It is definitely worth playing.
We started 30k, better HH, a few months ago and its really great.
No xenos, only Marines in larger squads, impressive center pieces like Spartan tanks, Primarchs as LOW.
The game is much more balanced than 40k in its current incarnation with all its death stars.
The missions in the HH books are also worth looking at. Much more fun than the random maelstrom missions the 40k rule book has to offer.

I agree with this statement. I prefer 30k to 40k. Modeling, rules, and players.

Would it be worth playing it in a Zone Mortalis type fashion?

I played this at Adepticon Last year.

Yes! Yes it is.

A small war band, due to the expense, is probably a good way to start. Especially if you have friends interested in it. Also, Also, especially with the rumored kit that will be on pre-order November 7.

The real trick/question for these threads is "Do you have a regular opponent/friend/cousin's cousin that is willing to play with you?"

Pretty much this. Enjoying premium minis more in opposition to generic minis with decals. After all resin of fw ait a fail cast.
Pricing is just about ok.

I have a friend who likes Kill Team style games. He is pretty frugal and doesnt buy a lot of things new but he has marines (40k) and I am not picky on who my opponent is or what the models are

30k is a way better system overall.

Marines don't have "And they shall know no fear" so that opens up a lot of other strategic options like fear and makes failing morale a big deal. Marines can be lost in a sweeping advance.

Tanks are a lot more fun to play with than in 40k where land raiders are non-existant. In 30k melta guns are expensive and can only be purchased on expensive units or as an expensive upgrade on vehicles. A lot of vehicles can also buy immunity to the melta special rule (armored ceramite) making them a lot more durable. Land raiders are a formidable threat requiring specific units to counter them.

A formidable army can be made with just GW stuff, also. There is nothing that says you have to buy forgeworld stuff.
