As to the content of the question: it's up to you. If you feel bad about it, don't. If you want the models and don't want to spend over $50 per model on ebay, go for it. It's up to you.
I usually follow 2 rules when it comes to buying recast:
1) Are the models OOP?
-------a) OOP because the company went out of business?
-------b) OOP because there are now new versions?
-------c) OOP because they were a limited edition/release?
2) What is the attitude of the company?
Now personally, the only things I have really consistently purchased as recasts are Rackham Confrontation models, and
GW models that I refuse to buy in finecrap.
With the Rackham line, yes they are
OOP, and yes CMON now owns the rights to the line. If they actually sold the line, I'd buy from them. Otherwise, buying the genuine models means combing through ebay, with a slim selection, with prices that are far too expensive for me. If I could find a place that did castings of the Ilyad miniature line, I would feel the same. For the most part, I want these things for tabletop use.
That being said, there are things that are designed to be limited edition that go
OOP. Studio McVey's limited editions come to mind. These are a bit more on the "you really shouldn't buy that" side, at least in my mind.
