It occurred to me today while looking at the new Kauyon book. It is now possible because of specialized CADs and Formations to have different rules on otherwise identical units in the same army.

So the question is what is your preferred methods to identify which unit belongs to which CAD/Formation during play?

Yeah, I get confused sometimes when im running my Ultramarine demi company's and I have like 4 or 5 tactical doctrines, and each one only affects certain units. As of now I remember through sheer will power.

Mark the rim of the base to tell units apart?

I find it refreshing that even with similar models, an army could play slight differently. Anything that adds variety is a plus on my account.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Those 25-32mm base extenders could be good.
Get some in different colours, and fit as required.

Or, paint each unit up slightly differently, and say which is in each formation.
Squad numbers and labels could be enough.
