Two weeks in and I am rather enjoying this new series.

Tom Bateman is good in the title role. The production design is really good, the look and feel of the lighting and colour balance, and the way they transform Jekyll into Hyde with just a bit of makeup and some different camera angles.

The update to the 1930s is a good way of enlarging the story to incorporate the new elements of the 'Military Intelligence: Other' organisation, and the Tenebrae secret society looks like a good set of villains.

Anyone else catching it?

Apparently there have been a lot of complaints that it is too scary and violent for its broadcast timing.

Sorry for the late reply old chap but I finally watched this on catch up this evening and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I thought Hyde would be a bit more made up than losing his tie and some black eyeliner but what the point in getting a handsome chap for the lead and covering him up I suppose.

I'm smitten by Bella already, Mockney accent or not!

I get a league of extraordinary Gentlemen vibe from this for some reason. I hope it continues to be as enjoyable and expands its universe over a few seasons.

Jekyll's transformation is done with a quick flash of graphics, then Hyde is carried forward with a bit of make-up, some mood lighting and different camera angles. It works very well because of the actor's ability and his physical presence. When he juts out his jaw and hunches his shoulders, magnified by his big furry coat, he looks like an amoral monster.

The BBC said it was pulled on account of the episode having a gun fight in it that might seem tasteless under the circumstances.

Probably for the best if that was the case.

I wonder how they will catch up?

Another good episode - proper weekend evening telly

Not enough "Hills" but lots of good stuff - proper pulp bad guys and fun.

I just wish the BBC could still make decent drama instead of what they excrete and call Dr Who at the moment.

I liked the take on the theme with the series from a few years
back, "Jekyll", so will have to catch this version.

Thats was also fun and had Gina Bellman so that was a major plus point.

Caught up with Episodes 3 & 4. Still enjoying thi.

The effects were good in Ep4 with the exception of the sound which I am finding annoying. The animalistic roar they put behind Hyde's yells grates me terribly; if nothing else no one seems to react to it?

Crabhandman was the same but with added 1980's prosthetics. I still don't know why Hill's shotgun rounds didn't have any noticeable effect (even on his cloths).

Other than that, it was a good watch.

It is a pity that the
Spoiler:
solicitor character died. That probably also removes his secretary, who was fun too.

Last night they showed the episode that had to be postponed when the series was halted for a week after the Paris attacks.

The feature length season finale is on over Christmas.

My daughter loves this series, it's her favourite thing on TV at the moment. I hope they make a second series.

They keep introducing new characters. It turns out that
Spoiler:
Hyde has a seriously hot blonde sister, only she is not only a Jekyll/Hyde, but also a vampire and a minion of Tenebrae. So not good girlfriend material even though Jekyll's current on/off girlfriend has been revealed as a spy from MI:O.

Wheels within wheels!

Unfortunately Charlie Higson has confirmed that Jekyll and Hyde will not be commissioned for another series.

Sad, I liked this. It was a bit cheesy but i think it probably deserved a second series to see if it had legs.

Bums. I enjoyed it a lot more than Three Musketeers.

Atlantis also wasn't renewed just when it was starting to get good.

Yes, Jekyll & Hyde was a bit cheesy but that was part of its pulp era charm, I thought.

Still, Beowulf seems fairly good.

Shame about it not getting renewed, but it really didn't fit in the slot, too much violence no matter how cheesy

so I'm not too surprised

the sets are apparently being sent off to French refugee camps
