Subject: So a children's show just incoorperated the Warp.
Gravity Falls, Season 2, Episode 18: Weirdmaggedon, Part 1
- we have what's essentially the most accurate representation of what Chaos Gods and Daemons do to the Material world when they get through a Warp Rift. Everything get's screwed up just the way things are described in the Lore of the Warhams, albit a bit more child friendly. A bit. And by a bit I mean that we see a character get his face reshuffled, in a painfully real art style, no less. Having an eye for a mouth must be horrifying.
Was anyone else blown away by this episode?

The Warp is that with the addition of being the home of the 4 major named chaos gods who obtain their power from various emotions, a means for transportation for ships to jump through as long as they are protected by the right shields to keep the danger away from the ship and as long as they can use the light of the emperor as a waypoint, home of the traitor legions, a source of energy that is channeled by psychers, and which has a long permanent opening to the real world called the eye of the warp.
The warp is an expansion of the old "evil weird alternate dimension/universe with creatures spitting out into the real world" trope, and the show uses the same trope. But there is really nothing in that episode that is specific to Warhammer.
You will find stuff that feels like Warhammer in many stories/shows/games because they all build on the same source material and old archetypes, but that doesn't make Warhammer the source.

So, what you're saying to me is that the fact that there's no pauldrons or elaborate moustaches makes this made-for-fun post about some fethed up gak moot?
You're quite the showstopper.

I'm saying that it's about "the warp" as much as any movie with elves is about "Warhammer".
I thought it was a thread making a genuine "they used warhammer" point, so I treated it as a serious thread and addressed he actual topic.
Had I realized t was a made-for fun post about some fetched up gak I would have simply reported it as spam instead since there is no interest in actual discussions

There's a discussion going right now about wether this is a kid or adult show, with this kind of imagery, so yeah, there's a discussion going on. Plus, it's on the Off-Topic forum, so the fact that it isn't about what you assumed isn't a problem.
It isn't spam, and fits within the forum parameters, so I don't see the problem, other than a base misunderstanding.

Shonen, when used to refer to Demographics, refers specifically to adolescent and pre-adolescent boys. So it quite literally is "kids stuff" by a Western definition. But yeah, the kind of stuff that passes as 'kids stuff' in Japan can be quite surprising. There are entire shows that are literally barely hidden sex jokes that are essentially children's shows. Don't even get me started on Shojo, which is the girl equivalent of Shonen and has given us stuff like Revolutionary Girl Utena (it's a show about lesbians , try getting that past the moral guardians around here ). Hell Mobile Suit Gundam is a children's cartoon series, and some of those have been dark by the standards of adult shows over here *remembers Victory Gundam, manly tears*.
Is this meant to be a kid's show? Its a bit nightmarish. Its more for adolescents.
I mean, I like it, but I happen to run off wierdass nightmare fuel
Given the massive amounts of body horror/on screen death in the last episode, I think that it really strains at the boundaries of "Kids Show".
Well, no one 'dies'... They are turned to stone or off-screen implied death which could be easily undone due to the nature of the character.
I do agree, it was a pretty extreme turn but the series has been boiling to this for a long time. You know Bill is 'evil' but you never know he was this messed up.
They do call him a 'chaos god' but chaos god are usually creatures of extreme randomness in kids series usually trying to shake up status quo. Not at all 40k chaos gods.
I can recommend the series, only 38 episodes to this point so worth a binge.

As I said, wider age range. Or I just have a very narrow definition of kid.
