Anyone have experience with either Ultramarine or Raven Guard?

I am trying to help a friend of mine get started and 30k and he is interested in either of these. I have personally not played against either of them, since 30k isn't that big in my area yet.

He wants something that can shoot but also has a good CC presence. I told him from just looking at either legion the Dark Fury or Suzerains look like some pretty good squads to build.

Can someone with some experience playing with or against throw in their 2 cents?

No experience playing with or against either, but being able to infiltrate all your infantry (Ravenguard) seems like it would lend well to a mix of shootiness and CC. They also get access to improved lightning claws.

Haven't seen the new rules for Ultramarines so I can't comment on that, but Ravenguatd have pretty nasty rules.

RG get furious charge on jump infantry, bikes and termie armour. Dark furies are fairly good at mulching meq (warp talons with grenades, a set of master crafted Lightning claws and 2+ armour on the sarge) also have the other special unit that has the one off rending bolters of murder? Plus the strike master IC, leads to a lot of fun.

Can't speak for ultra's but they have some way of getting re-roll ones on most shooty weps. Not near books so take with a pinch of salt.

RG looks like the decision, the infiltrating looks like it will hurt, a lot.
