So like many others when I saw the BaC set I immediately thought of that 30k army I'd always wanted to start, but always opted not to for various reasons. But now that a (relatively) cheap option exists to get into 30k I find myself torn. I fully intend to do some work on my growing Eldar army before I do anything with 30k, but I'm not entirely sold on 30k yet. Would the BaC set be a decent start for an Emperor's Children Legion army? What kind of things would I need to get from Forgeworld to have a decent army? I know I'd need to get the book that has the EC in it, but what else might I need to get?

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

2.istavaan and legions books
3.making your mind bout Row
But let's be honest box ain't that good starter as it seems it's way better as a fill in for existing armies.

If you are not going with a terminator force BaC is a pretty good set. I am using it to bolster two of my IW armies, foot slogging infantry mobs and an all termy and heavy vehicle army.

There really is no one way to play a 30k army, even within specific legions. The is fluff from FW even about Night Lord heavy armor formations, so the legions encompass everything even if they are usually only know overall for certain things. EW is one of the legions I know least about. Off hand I think they have two good close combat units, but their noise marine precursors kind of suck. I couldn't tell you what their actual special rules are.

As to your actual question, I think you have a good start using the BaC to build up a vet squad and a large tactical squad, and you cant go wrong with a Contemptor even if its weapons aren't optimum. I haven't checked to see it they are interchangeable with FW arms. You have too many options to choose from to know whether it really fits your needs though.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

I'm in the same boat as Warkitten and I'm thinking of grabbing 2 BaCs just in case they go poof.

Sorry if I hijack the thread, but is going Word Bearers and allying Daemons and bringing in the Mhara Gal Tainted Dreadnought and Gal Vorbak enough to bolster them to 30k levels, or do I need to shell out for some spartans and deimos?

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Well, the BaC set is a decent start for a 30k army whatever faction you are going to choose.
I'd consider HH book one ( or I guess book three ). They contain all basic units icluding EC.
Tactical units are the core of a 30k army. They can contain up to 20 men. For the first ten you pay the normal pt costs and for the second ten only two third.
I'd also consider to include the Primarch.
I got Angron via eBay. It's an absolutely nice model.
