Okay, so Archaon has just arrived - haven't opened the box yet. Instead, dove right into White Dwarf 97.

Now, you have probably seen piccies of the Varanguard Chaos Knights, but having the English language White Dwarf sheds some new light on the Everchosen army...

1. The Varanguard ain't your daddy's Chaos Knights reborn. Think Blightkings or Wrathmongers and then increase by an order of magnitude. These are not variant knights but something new (and very hard!).
2. A new Everchosen unit is coming next week, the Gaunt Summoners. No info other than they are 'little trusted but incredibly powerful.'
3. The Everchosen Battletome is previewed. Looks nice enough (the standard edition comes with a dust jacket), says you will learn all about Archaon and his hordes. It has three Battleplans in it (so far, so standard), but for Warscrolls, it only mentions four battalions. Will it have more? You would think it will feature Archaon, the Varanguard and Summoners, but what about all the rest of the models that appear on the battalions (daemons, Chaos Warriors, etc - would be nice to have everything in one place, like the Stormcasts and Bloodbound)? No idea. However, the book is just 112 pages long (still £35).
4. There are Everchosen transfers included in the book. Nice (and helps keep the £354 price tag - being a publisher, I know these tricks ), but if they are not available separately, I can see some people getting a bit frightful about that (need more transfers, buy another book!).
5. Everchosen painting guide coming out - and thinking about it, the Gaunt Summoners might be that Tzeentch-style wizard on the disc that was previewed...
6. Part 7 of Call of Archaon is previewed, going back to the Nurgle guy.
7. Preview of Archaon's army - there are eight 'circles' each with its own history and colour scheme (two variants of which are shown later on - they are not all black, just the First Circle).
8. The Varanguard Warscroll is in here - 5 wounds, if Archaon is about they get +1 to hit (so, their 6 ensorcelled weapon attacks, for example, now hit on 2+...), their shields turn spells and once per battle they can pile in and attack twice. Oh, and every turn Archaon can give them the Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch, or Slaanesh keywords, so get ready for serious buffing.
9.There is artwork for the Varanspire. Looks really nasty and doable with the Dreadhold - but looking at the height of the walls alone, you will need serious pockets!
10. Another hint on Everchosen Warscrolls - it mentions the four battalions (each one dedicated to one god) but also mentions you can combine them with the Everchosen's Overlords of Chaos to create Archaon's Grand Host. So, it sounds like something else is going on there...
11. The Regiment of Renown is some orange Seraphon.

Oh, and there is some 40k stuff as well...

Is Gaunt Summoners referred to in plural? Assumed it was a character model, but might it be a unit?

Quite curious what exactly the Everchosen battle tome covers. Too bad they didn't redo the Warriors plastics along with this, as they are looking a little dated on rounds now.

I remember before AoS people thought the number of factions was getting cut down, but it turns out we're getting more "army books" than ever it seems like, and I like that direction.

Lizards have a super battalion that combines the other battalions into one. I think it gave each sub-commander the ability to use its command ability in addition to the smaller battalions having their rules (haven't got book in front of me so can't check).

I'm on the New Zealand site looking at the Everchosen Painting Guide up for preorder, and, in the table of contents, the Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch is listed in the singular. So, from there it looks like a character/single model and not a unit.

With number 10 something is going to happen in the realm of death I think. Since Archaon has gathered several warbands in the realm of death and in the audiobook series. A lord celestant of the hallowed knights named Tarsus was ordered by sigmar to gain and auidence with nagash( he is soooooo dead) with Mannfred as a guide.

Still reading e-short the one that is currently released joining Archaon army is like a job interview from hell and he has demons from all 4 gods as interviewers as well and if you do get the job Archaon has such a nice areas in the Citadel depending on which god you follow.
