Teaser Website

A website announcing System Shock 3 has gone live with Boston-based OtherSide Entertainment attached to the project.

The website features a timer set to reveal the game in five days as of press time. A separate page, however, which appears to have gone live in error, features the logo System Shock 3.

Paul Neurath, the founder of the original System Shock creator Looking Glass Studios, is listed as the founder of OtherSide. Other key figures at OtherSide include Joe Fielder, a former GameSpot editor, whose portfolio includes games such as BioShock Infinite and Boom Blox.

Currently, no further details about the game are available.

On November 12, Night Dive Studios, the team behind the Enhanced Edition re-release of System Shock, revealed it has "acquired the full rights to the [System Shock] franchise" and is working on a full remake of the first game.

Additionally, Night Dive said it is discussing a brand new entry in the series, but may partner with another studio for this.

"To really do another game in that series is going to take resources and time and commitment that we don't have, and it's really not our core business," said chief executive Stephen Kick.

It is unclear whether Night Dive Studios is involved with, or has sanctioned, OtherSide Entertainment's System Shock 3 project.

OtherSide Entertainment is also currently working on a sequel to Ultima Underworld, following its successful Kickstarter campaign which generated $860,356 through crowdfunding.

I am...... very torn about this.

The old gems: System Shocks, Deus Ex, Thief, all of these I hold very dear to me, and I for the most part don't trust the modern gaming industry to do a sequel properly. The Thief remake is a prime example of that, and how Bioshock Infinite turned into an action shooter rather than a shooter/RPG hybrid that System Shock 2 was. And while I am glad to hear that Looking Glass co-founder Paul Neurath is a part of this, reading a name associated with Bioshock Infinite does not give me hope.

I will causiously wait for this, while playing System Shock 2 for the nth teenth time.

I'm very excited. I played SS1 intensely, and it was a phenomenal, underrated game that was well ahead of it's time (and UI limitations!). SS2 was a classic everyone knew that had to sadly, compete with Half Life.

I have no issues with taking any of the production value and world-imaging quality of Bioshock Infinite and putting it to this game: That game reached a lot more of it's potential (the environment, look, and bizzare twists) than it's predecessor, Bioshock did (which never properly used the under-water elements and had a REALLY weak last act).
