My question is like the subject states. I think It would be cool to paint up the BoC stuff as Iron Warriors. I love their fluff and it seems that even as "chaos space marines" they seem to use cold logic, efficiency and like in their actions. To my understanding in the preheresy they were they "stubborn, work horse" kind of army using cold and brutal efficiency to gain a means to victory. I also know they had and have the ability to get tons of wargear and armor tanks and the like. So in thinking of this would is it thought of that in the heresy and after they took care of their armor more or less excluding the whole eye of terror mutation stuff?

I would assume that yes, they did.
They prided themselves, as you noted, in their siege tactics and being able to deploy tanks and specialized wargear, so it only makes sense that they would take care of the tools they use to achieve victory.
As a matter of fact, I'm sure every Legion in 30K and every chapter in 40K, including chaos warbands (to their best abilities) take good care of their gear, but on the tabletop the weathered and battered look "just looks too cool".

yeah im trying to paint the 30k stuff in a way that could act as if they were pre and post heresy and I figured the best way to do both is to see how they treat their stuff in general and most likely as Chaos Space marines because from what I gather they are one of the most numerous Chaos bands out there with a ton of marines at their disposal?

Not just that, but fluffwise, almost no chaos space marine is a mere grunt, and everyone shows his status with their gear, which is why they personalize and adorn it so heavily as well. Probably one with his armour and weapons in poor condition would be (or would be regarded as) very low in the totem pole who can't find (by any means available) find the time and resources for that.

very true. I guess the next question would be what mark armour would most of the legion have? I must admit there is something magical about a whole unit of iron warriors in mk III also what units would they have a lot of? a lot of heavy weapons and breachers?

I really cant imagine nurgle's brood is that on top of it but if i had to take a guess I'd say those thousand sons under ahriman probably take the best care of their armor, being an army of alphonse elrics
