Hello.
I've been looking to get into Bolt Action, and am interested in going with Panzergrenadiers. Always have loved how they play in Flames of War, even if they're often not very effective, and have always been interested in the highly mobile hard hitting aspect of the force composition.
However, only having played a couple demo games of Bolt Action, I can't really claim to know what works well and what is an absolute waste of points.
This is what I came up with:
First Lt w/ Aide (Reg)
Heer Grenadier Squad w/ NCO AR, 2x AR, 5x Rifle, 2x Pzfaust (Reg)
Heer Grenadier Squad w/ NCO AR, 2x AR, 5x Rifle, 2x Pzfaust (Reg)
Medic w/ Aide (Vet)
Heer Grenadier Squad w/ NCO AR, 2x AR, 3x Rifle, 2x Pzfaust (Reg)
Sniper Team (Reg)
Flamethrower Team (Reg)
Light Howitzer (Reg)
StuH 42 (Vet)
SdKfz 251/1 Half-track (Reg)
SdKfz 251/1 Half-track (Reg)
Kettenkrad (Reg)
Total: 1000 points - 12 Order Dice
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The basic idea is to load one half-track with one of the 8-man grenadier squad and the 1st Lt. If I have to move forces on and don't have the sniper set up, he can also hitch a ride in the halftrack and hop out to a nice overwatch position so he spends less time running and wasting shots. The other half-track takes the other 8-man grenadier squad, the medic and the flamethrower. These two elements are my attacking/redeploying force, as they're able to press the attack on an objective quickly or switch sides of the battlefield quickly to reinforce if needed.
The small grenadier squad can hold homefield objectives, act as a blocking force if something pushes my back field, act as an infantry screen for the StuH, or push up on foot to support the halftracks.
The kettenkrad is there to help move the light howitzer from position to position quickly, allowing it to keep up with the attacking half-track elements to provide direct fire HE support.
I feel like I may be a little lacking on anti-tank with only 6 panzerfausts, but in a pinch the flamethrower, StuH and howitzer can pile pins on a tank if they have to.
Any thoughts or criticisms on this force layout? I feel like I've covered most of the bases, but as I said I've only played a couple games so I'm sure I missed something or something in there won't work as well as I expect/hope it to.
Thanks!
