Hey to anyone reading this If anyone could offer some advice I'd be thrilled! So, around 8 years ago, I first picked up interest in Warhammer 40k. The issue was that as a 10 year old, I didn't really fully understand the rules and how everything worked and I never played a proper game of 40k. My first set was The Battle for Macragge box set, and I also believe the Assult on Black reach set as I loved space Marines and Orks, I still have my models from both sets as well as some others. Other people are judgemental, and I'm quite a reserved guy so I guess that's why I lost interest as high school wasn't easy - people can be jerks man! Anyway, I was looking at potentially getting into the hobby again, but I don't really know where to start. I love the idea of collecting a Raven Guard force, and I'm open to ideas, collecting a small force of more unique models as a side hobby for spare time or just relaxing.

I recently popped into my local Games Workshop store and to be honest it was a little bit overwhelming, I don't feel as if I fit in with the whole community - that's not me suggesting I'd be above it at all as I'm really interested, but I feel in a slightly different crowd if that makes sense! I don't mean to offend anyone it's just I'm not massively familiar with the 40k community, and my brief experiences haven't helped

Sorry for the long winded story, thought it may be worth explaining! Like I said, I'm practically totally new to all of this so if anyone could lend a hand that would be cool! Anything to do with what I should do with my old models or where to start, anything would be appreciated!

Thanks all!

Hi. Welcome to Dakka

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Well, start with the rules, get a rule book new or used, whatever you think best.
See if the local hobby shop has a 40k night and see how things are played, see if these are people you would be happy to play with.

I would suggest you focus on an element of the game you are interested in and start asking specific questions.

You could start with the various armies or formations that are of interest and find out more.

It is a hobby, so take a look at what you find fun and start digging into it.

Good luck! BTW: Welcome to Dakka! We may be opinionated, we can sometimes be negative, but one thing for sure: we have passion for the hobby or we would not argue so much!

I'd say not much has changed in 10 years with 40k. Fantasy's world blew up, but 40k has mainly gone through a few rule editions.

Everything from your starter box still applies (except the rulebook). Honestly, I'd check ebay for used stuff. If I remember right that starter came with a Force Commander, two tactical squads and a unit of Terminators. So, thats what I'd roll with. I'd get a rulebook off ebay- the current starter has a mini version you can get, and the Codex Space Marine Its fairly new so you don't have to worry about buying one and having a new version come out next month.

Look I focused my comments on Space Marines because theyre easier to jump back into the hobby with. The army model count will be much smaller. First expansion of your army I'd consider is a Heavy Slot unit, like a devastator squad. You may wanna start out building balanced lists until you find a style that appeals to you.
