Hey everyone, So, It all started some time ago when my buddy showed me this thread. http://forums.deathguard.org/viewtopic.php?t=6755 I though "Wow, if these guys can just whip up such fantastic miniatures I dont see why I should be so affraid to give it a shot." Im pretty sure all of us when we first started this hobby had a dream of making our own miniatures. Well I did atleast. So I sat down the other day, and grabbed an old Orc archer (the most useless model that most of us have far too many of) that had been eaten by my dog and started mushing greenstuff on him. No reservations, I have a ton of green stuff and its getting all messed up from sitting outside its tube. So this is what I came up with. Not bad, I thought. Im proud to have taken a lame useless mini that had been chewed up and given it new life as a boss in Drog's Dead 'ard armor. I started thinking Sculpting isnt that hard after all. So I sat down and wrote an army list. (Fantasy orcs were the first army i ever collected, then i never accualy played a fantasy game and ended up getting into 40k where i have 3 fully painted 1.5k armies.) I decided I would need some shaman. I read the little paragraph about orc shaman. It says various orcy things but what caught my eye was this "By working themselves into a deep trance..." The image poped into my head, of an orc trying really hard to communicate with gork and mork then just falling asleep as the two gods argued for the next few hours. Hmm what a wonderful idea, a shaman that is totaly asleep, heh, well its funny to me. so there. Heres a sketch I did of my shaman. I sat down last night and made a quck armature so i could work on it today. I was so excited to work on him it was hard to get to sleep He sure is pretty... I had another picture at the next phase but its too blurry so you can skip the next few hours. I used a plastic head and skull so he wouldnt look too ghetto. I sculpted eye lids over his eyes so he would look asleep. I also cut him off the base and added a cork stump so he would be a little bigger and stand out on the battle field a little more then a sleeping orc normaly would. anyway, any half decent shaman would chose to sit on a stump instead of the mud. Well here atlast, are the pictures of the fully painted model. Im quite proud of him seeing as he is the most scratch sculpted model i have done so far. and he only took me 1 day and a previous evening for the quick armature. I hope you like seeing this as much as I do. -Sean PS: Thanks for the Insperation MFV and Fayd.

Neat! I especially like the pose: It's different and it helps you avoid those things that befuddle sculptors the most: leg length and proportion.

Very nice job on both figs. I particularly like the uniqueness of the Shaman. No one will have one even remotely close.

I've seen the Reaper Exarch with both weapon options and both look like things you can buy in sex shops. A weapon should not look like this, not even a Emperor's Children weapon. -Symbio Joe |

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time... |

That is sweet. I really need to try my hand at sculpting, although I highly doubt it will be anywhere near as good as your stuff.

So overcome by the powers of the waaaaagh he lost controll and took of all his clothes. Thats right, Im planning on doing a fully nude orc, weener and all. probebly dancing. It should be good though, I have the sketches done, and Im going to do an armature tonight. Exciting stuff.

Do orcs have "weeners"? I thought they were fungi-based. Like a green mushroom or something.

Well I finished my second Scratch sculpted shaman. This guy, as mentioned earlier is naked. Cover the childrens eyes, and brace yourself for orcy pubes. So I started off this model like the other one, with some concept sketches, I knew I wanted him to be naked (in order to mock those guys out there that paint the naked girls with huge... guns and stuff.) I decided to go with a mix of what appears on in the concepts, this was my first standing miniature so I didnt want to get too complicated with him dancing and stuff. though that would have been excelent. with a simple armature I started slapping on his musculature, having studied anatomy in art quite a bit it wasnt very dificult at all. The hard part is trying to come even close to the amount of detail the pros get. I used a plastic head again, I just dont have the tools to attempt the detail that would go into a face. I will sculpt a face one of these days though, dont you worry. His only accesory is his trusty turtle that rides on his head. I had the idea of a turtle shell helmate, then I decided a live turtle would make me smile more. Heres the finnished model. and his back I hope you enjoy this half as much as I do. -Sean
