Hey dakka,
so I've been on this website for a while now and I've recently started (1 year now) painting but not so much playing miniature Wargames. I’ve been building a Warhammer chaos space marine army and it is not by any means cheap or easy to get a army down in Warhammer when I have a personal high tabletop standard. Besides the point WARMACHINE has just really caught my eye lately and I'm super "WARJACKED" up to get playing and painting up a cryx army. What intrigues me to much is not the smaller army sizes or the cost, but the STRATAGY that is involved in the game is just amazing I'm just absolutely in love with it. After going to my local store and watching some people play I’m HOOKED. I was also amazed on how big the warmachine community is in my area. All this being said NO I'm not giving up on warhammer as I deeply love painting the models and the game is really fun, But Ive found a new friend!
Besides the points listed above and as a new player I'm hoping you guys can help me out starting my new army.
Do you guys think I should buy the all in one box or should I get the battle group to start? Will I be able to utilize the units from the battle group in lets say 6 months to a year from now or should I just drop the money and get the all in one box? what is really more bang for my buck when it comes to actually utilizing the units from each box?
hope you guys can help me out, thanks.
Cheers!

I don't play Cryx, but in my experience of playing against them:
The battlebox: Cryx doesn't always like heavy jacks much, so the Slayer is a bit niche. War Witch Deneghra (or pDeneghra, as she's called, for Prime Deneghra) is a spectacularly powerful caster and the light jacks included are a cryx mainstay for their ability to deliver their arc nodes wherever you want them and natively high defense.
The all-in-one: everything here is great, with the possible exception of the Leviathan, which might not see a lot of use because it is a Cryx heavy jack. I don't know what Cryx players in general think of bane knights, but I have seen them used to good effect. Bane Thralls are incredibly powerful. The Warwitch Siren is great. I think eDeneghra is rather good? You also get a tiny rulebook, which I'm really into, personally.
Also, the battlebox and the all-in-one box are designed specifically to not overlap, so if you really wanted to go crazy you could get both. You won't put all the 'jacks in the same list, at least outside some niche lists, but they're all usable. The main thing that's dubious is the heavy 'jacks, because Cryx casters tend to have such great spell lists that they don't want to give focus out to them.
In short: from what I know as someone who does not actually play Cryx, they are both very good places to start the faction, and if you really want to get into it you may want to pick up both eventually.

Yeah both are pretty good. Bane ponies are quite nasty and really helped out Goreshade and Asphyxious, (also known as Shade and Gaspy)
As hive fleet said, the battlebox contains Deneghra1, the all in one contains Deneghra2. Both of which are extremely good warcasters and you still see them both being used in tournaments. However Deneghra2 is in the process of getting a rescuplt, http://privateerpress.com/community/privateer-insider/insider-01-08-2016 and as a painter you may want to wait it out until she comes out later this year. But bare in mind that the all in ones are limited edition. They may not last that long.

Well, I play Cryx. Its a glasscannon army which can hit hard and defuff the enemy.
My favorite caster is Gaspy2. He's still one of the best casters in the game. Goreshade2 is my second one in steamroller events but he doesn't do much for the army.
What you need is Banes, the more the better. 10 Bane Thralls with UA, 10 Bane Knights, and 5 Bane Riders. At the 50 pt level, I usually take 10 Satyxis Raiders plus UA or 10 Nyss Hunters. Some arcnodes like Nightwrenches or Deathrippers are useful as are solos like Machine Wraith, Saxon Orrik, Gorman, and whatnot.

hey guys I really appreciate your guys input and its really helping me get a good idea of what I need to buy for starting out. That being said I just found a guy who is local to me who is getting out of the hobbie and is selling a gak tonn of BNIB stuff. I just shot him a offer (that hes probably going to take) for 2 x 10 bane knights, the battle group and bane lord tartarus all for 140$ flat. I think this is better then buying the all in one box since the warcasters/solos are fairly cheap and easy to get my hands on, I can always pick up more as I go. what I really want are bane thralls with the UA from the officer & standard. If this deal does go through I think this is probably my best bet as I'm saving a tonn of money on just the knights alone and im not getting the stuff I don’t care to much for(bane riders, nightwretches, and the leviathan). Been doing some research and the bane thralls looks terrifying on the table (weapon master/dark shroud) and I'm wondering if I should try and trade one unit of knights for a unit of thralls with UA or just keep both units of knights and just build an army around that?
thanks for the input once again and let me know what you guys think thanks.
Cheers! Automatically Appended Next Post: P.S. The warjack I have my eyes on are the DEATHJACK, seen him in a couple battle reports and he my guy! Not only does he look great but from what I can tell hes a beast on the dancefloor as well!

Deathjack seems to be the most commonly taken 'jack in our faction.
He is strong, focus efficient and pretty nasty but he's 12pts so a big chunk of your army. OTOH barring Bonejacks he might be your only jack. So you do need to try and keep him safe.
If you are keen on the Knights look I would say keep them and get a unit of the Thralls. The old ones were done in metal but there is a newer version in plastic that gives you a full unit for less money.
Both Knights and Thralls are good units to have.
You would still need the UA. Very much worth it, though.
Welcome to the Nightmare Empire!
