Subject: Assault squads in rhinos - good or bad?

Hey all, I was considering going Flesh Tearers (as Gabriel Seth is such a god damn champion), and I was looking at their formation, which allows 6 fast attack choices. Would having assault squads mounted in Fast rhinos be crap or good? Cos it seems kinda cool, but it might just be taking away their general mobility and they can't charge out of them...
Cheers all

They can be fun. But without Assault, they are kinda missing out. A Tri-Melta squad can still be a pain to deal with, though.

If you are using them as a special weapon delivery squad sure. I think a pod might be a better transport, but in an otherwise rhino hulled list, it should do OK.
But if your primary goal is to chop people apart, keep the packs.

I have used them in more than 10 games, it's one of my favorite units. Poors man battle company, drop the combi-melta running 2 in each and use the firepoint as much as you can, but disembark when you really need to get in melta range for something key.
I usually only run 2 or 3, with dozer blades to avoid random immobilize. Most of the games i move them 24" to get in a good position. They often get focused, so all the layered defense is nice. Vs lists with no armor, they are useful for blocking enemy movement and screening other units.
Vs a few lists you can actually use them for assault, lists with no armor and weak in combat, it's usually best to move them 24" turn 1 and set them up for turn 3 assaults. Since they are cheap it's a decent distraction unit. Don't forget to tank shock.
