Any tips on how to beat the empire? I don't know how to counter them. Before I can get to them a good portion of my army is already lost to the cannons, magic and shooting.

My opponent usually plays 40 helebardiers (with a war priest) 2 or more cannons with an engineer, mage and a few knights. We usually play for about 2k points. I play a sorceror, chariot, marauders and warriors. If i use horsemen or hounds to hunt down the cannons they just get shot and flee. I really don't know what to do.

Mark of tzeentch, deamonic mount, Ensorceled shield, Taliman for 4+ invuln And third eye of tzeentch and great weapon. Charge him alone in the hallebardier and watch them being tank the whole block for 6 turn.

You issue challenge on each of the warrior priest, smash them to ground in a turn, then to the other, then to the champion and then you stomp the rest.

Drop the sorcerer lord and take a Deamon Prince of slaanesh : lv 4 flight, chaos armor, striking sword, dracocide gem, fire breath chaos familiar scaly skin soul eater grace of slaanesh and destroy both canon easily with this one. You can also try to fly in the middle of the enemies line and spam the big slaanesh spell.

easier deamon prince is the one of nurgle : lv 4, flight, chaos armor, striking sword, ensorceled Shield, dracocide gem fire breath chaos familiar, scaly skin, soul eater nurgle (touch? don't have the english rules but it's a 10 point nurgle upgrade). You can use this one to destroy anything he got, he's also quite a tank.

If you have more money or models add chariot instead of warrior and chimeras/skullcrusher.

Great Banner on an exalted hero is a good start and Klone12 sets you on the right path but if you're not adverse to spending the dough the varnguard are class!!
