Hey guys,

Is there anyway of assisting the night goblins low leadership value? I had a game Friday night that was over by turn 2. A big block of goblins got hit by a flame cannon that caused half my army to panic and leave the table (As I had only had 1 turn).

I stupidly put my warlord and battle-standard in the same unit on the opposite flank, so I now know to split them out to spread the coverage. Is there any other tips?

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Always centre your general and BSB, and unless you want a theme army never run pure night goblins.

If you must run pure night goblins you need to run Skarsnik to get a reasonable general; need to take lots of squigs and doom divers and enough fanatics to make attackers nervous, but DONT max out on them. Trolls are considered normal for pure night goblin armies. By and large you want to deal with attackers before they reach you and tank what doe with steadfast night gobbos backed up by Snarsnik and the BSB. It matters very little what the gobbos are armed with. Archers are reasonable as you get a lot of attacks in deep ranks if you remain still, hand weapon and shield gives you enough 6++ to make a real difference over time. However most night golbin armies go with spear and shield as that is what the majority of the models have got, and most models come from Black Pass sets. You can convert them, but need not bother. If you buy night goblin boxsets give them hand weapon and shield, and blend in about 40% of the cheraper and more available spear gobbos and still cou8nt the whole unit as hand weapon and shield in WYSIWYG under 'mixed infantry'.
You never purposely want that spears before you never want horde formation and the extra rank of attacks is meh in comparison the the 6++. That being said night goblins are wanted for their numbers not what they are armed with, you wont be crippled by taking a lot of spears just slightly disadvantaged, taking more night goblins or any armament is better than less with the right tooling. Ultimately you should have enough gobbos in your block you will always get steadfast unless flanked and only really fear flankers and unit effecting spells like Dwellers Below and Flames of the Phoenix, the latter being exceptionally deadly to night goblins.

If you want to run regular O&G then it is quite possible to have a lot of night goblins in it, make them the majority troop by numbers and yet still have all the things you can normally have in the O&G book. in fact it is quite normal to include a fair number of night goblins in a metagame O&G list.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Cheers dude, I am running a fluffy goblin only list with skarsnik.

On Friday my list was...

Skarsnik

Warboss on giant cave squig

2 level 2 shamans

Boss with battlestandard
Boss with great weapon

40 goblins with spears (skarsnik and banner joined this unit)

32 goblins with spears (boss in this unit)

2 units of 25 goblins with spears

3 units of 20 archers

3 fanatics (need more)

10 spider riders

1 aracnorok

1 doom diver

1 squig gobba

1 mangler squig.

I plan on merging the 2 units of 25 and sticking skarsnik with them so each block of gobbos has a least a hero. The mangler squig will probably come out for squig riders.

Any other ideas?
