What about them makes them so good? How are they used to maximum effect?

They are very mobile. Flickerjump makes them difficult to kill with shooting. The Exarch Power combined with Hit and Run makes them difficult to kill in assault. They wound most things (including WKs) or 2s or 3s. You are probably taking them in a formation for +1BS.

Of course they fall flat if you don't plan on doing much shooting. They are pretty weak in assault.

Gone-to-ground in the craters of Coventry

They can move about as far as jetbikes.
If anything shoots at them, they have a way to get out of the way.
They all carry Assault2 S6 guns with a chance to get AP1 when rolling to wound.
And, as jetpack infantry, can shoot then jump behind cover if they move carefully.
