This is bad of me to ask, but you people know more X wing knowledge than I do right now, I'm going up against a guy tomorrow who is most likely playing Imperial as well, small chance of Rebels or Scum and I need help building a 100 points list, as I'm terrible at making lists despite liking the game very much. I shall now provide a equipment list:

IMPERIAL ACES
TIE ADVANCED
5 TIE FIGHTERS WITH EVERY CARD KNOWN TO MAN
IMPERIAL ACES, SO 2 INTERCEPTORS
1 TIE FO EXPANSION
IMPERIAL DECIMATOR

So that's what I have, Carnor Jax is my personal favourite, so he'll probably be in the list with a shield upgrade and targeting computer with PTL. So that's almost decided. Any help would be very well taken, and I know that I'm being difficult by asking all of this, but you guys know more than me!

Set the mini swarm (in square formation) and the dec in the corner make him chose which to go after. Start off slow make him commit while trying to have all ships hit at the same time. Focus on one ship at a time, if possible. Use your TIEs as blockers for better shots for everyone else and action denial. Have fun.

So I put the Decimator and the tie square in the same corner almost beside each other?

That is what I get for not proof reading. The TIE formation is put in the middle of the deployment zone.

Oh, I see how it works, they'll do the exact same manuveurs while the Decimator runs around up the side, a cunning plan indeed.

Ideally Stealth device and autothrusters would be better upgrades for carnor jax but you don't have those yet

I am wondering how your game turned out and what you used?

I used the Decimator and mini swarm list, and I git utterly wrecked by a guy playing Scum. He had Y Wings with unhinged astromechs and ion turrets, so he kept hitting my Decimator and it just went through asteroids and off the map after a while. My TIE Fighters were also wrecked, because I can't seem to kill enemy ships at all while they take out 3 of mine in one turn. It's because I'm not really too good at the game, in fact I yet to win a game. However, I've now got the Slave 1 expansion for Krassis, and maybe he'll help my turmoil, I'll win a game sometime.

Ion any thing is the bane of the Dec.

Not to be clique but practice and perseverance are the best teachers.

I would suggest picking a couple ships and flying only those ships till you learn how to fly them and combos that work.

Krassis isn't good. He only seems good. I ran him a few times, the best way I've found is HLC, cluster missiles, and proximity mine. I ran that with Carnor and a mini-swarm. The problem is Krassis can't take an EPT, which is almost essential. having a reroll is good, but you could take Kath instead, and have predator with mangler cannon. Then take Gunner. You have a much deadlier ship, that can reroll with its primary(4 dice at range 1, or just shots out of the rear, when you get good at flying the Slave it ends up shooting out its back alot.) and can also reroll with its cannon.

Never take missiles, a Slave with no focus is usually a dead Slave. Mines and bombs can be alright, I've had varying success with them. They take alot of skill to use well, good positioning and all that. Killing things with proximity mines is immensely satisfying though. Mostly because the owning player rolls the dice. It's hilarious watching them roll a crit on their TIE fighter and getting direct hit and dying. I wouldn't recommend them unless you can proxy though. Andrasta allows 2 bombs, so taking 2 seismics is ok there, or Slave 1 title lets you take torpedo for Extra Munitions, so 2 of whatever bomb you get.

As above, you were playing a counter list. Ion cannons need 1 hit on 3 dice to Ion the Decimator, if he has 3 of them it's gonna be a bad time, although he needs to hit you at least twice to Ion you(large ship rules) still not difficult though. That happens alot in this game, certain pilots/ships/builds will counter others. This game is very rock-paper-scissors. the decimator is a solid ship though. Typically it's run in a 2-ship list, the decimator you were running was a little light on upgrades.

http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Galactic%20Empire&d=v3!s!99:20,-1,102,94,21,-1:-1:14:;22:57,73:23:17:U.124&sn=Unnamed%20Squadron

This might be fun to try, you'd need to proxy though. Vader is really good with that build, he can throw 5 dice once per game, and add a crit to it. the decimator can block enemy ships to give Vader 4 dice, and Vader is tanky as is, getting to focus+evade basically every turn, since almost every maneuver is green, he has no trouble shedding stress. And in this build the raider is DANGEROUS. It's gonna do damage basically every round, throwing 4 or 5 dice, stressing everyone close to it, and is tanky with that free evade once its shields are down. That's essentially 2-3 Hull bonus for 4 points.

Sorry for the novel, good luck with your Xwing games, hope I helped a bit. Any questions, just ask.

I'm heading for a tournament in February that does not allow any proxies, so I would have to buy all of the sets with those cards in for them. Predator any comes with the Defender, and there are little to none of those near where I am. My problem is I can't get the good cards that I want, I'm having to settle with what I've got, I thought that Imperial Kath was also not that good because her ability does not come into play often?

With Mangler Cannon Kath's ability is decently reliable. If you're running Interceptors, you NEED autothrusters. Which only comes with the Starviper. You can print out cards, there are guides for how to do it, if you really don't wanna buy ships.

He said that he was going to a tourney with no proxies.

Predator also comes in the Kirhakxz pack. Or Ghost, if it is out anytime soon.

It comes in the Defender pack, but there's no sign of that, there's a small chance I'll be able to get the Mangler Cannon either, the ship was there last time I checked, but Kath with the MCannon does sound good

If you must, and only want the Mangler Cannon, you can get it from the M3-A Interceptor. The Scyk. Which is the crapiest ship in the game. So, you reaaaally have to want the card.

Doesn't it come with the 2000's? I wouldn't mind buying one of those for a Scum list.

No he can't. ATC only works on primary weapon attacks.

How about Kath with VI, Mangler, and Gunner. She will be followed by a mini swarm of 4 Obsidian TIEs, Obsidian so that they can shoot before any level 2 K Wings and Y Wings?

Yep, the IG-2000 comes with one as well. It's a good ship but more expensive. It's also at its best in a list with another IG-2000.

Well I'll come to that when I start a Scum list, but for now I'll use Kath. Is Kressis really that bad? I though him with a HLC would be capable of some good damage.

He's somewhat overpriced. Not "unusable garbage", but he doesn't pull his weight.

To be sure, a re-roll on an HLC is nice. But it doesn't buff his attacks in his auxiliary arc, which is a major downside for a Firespray. A Mandalorian Mercenary with Predator or Scum Kath are 5 points cheaper, and have basically equivalent shooting effectiveness (Mercenary gets fewer dice, but more re-rolls. Kath gets same number of dice at lower cost).

If you're playing Imperial Firesprays, I still think Boba Fett's is an underrated pilot. With VI and Engine Upgrade, you can wildly re-adjust your flight path at PS10.

Seeming as I just got him, would Soontir Fel and a Bounty Hunter be able to fit into a good list?

Almost no way. Fel's best loadout is 35 points (PTL, Autothrusters, Title and Stealth Device) Kath is 45 points with just Predator and Engine Upgrade. Giving her what she really wants (Mangler and Mercenary Copilot for extra Crits at Range 3) and that means that she is 51 points. That would only give you 14 points... enough for a blocking Tie and that is it.

He said Bounty Hunter. Not Kath.

Soontir Fel+PTL+AT+RGT+SD and Turr Phennir+VI+AT+RGT+SD and a Bounty Hunter barebones is a solid list that I have run many times and performed very well before the advent of the current uber PS meta (Poe, Vader, Wedge, Ten Numb all with VI)

Sometimes I would trade Stealth Device on Soontir for Targeting Computer. It's another point for initiative bid and I found that often with Autothrusters, Focus and Evade, I didn't need the extra green die/focus and that getting rerolls on a 4 dice primary at range 1 was really helpful for me personally. Target Locks can also be banked for future turns if you roll all natural hits/crits. Which can set up a strong K-turn when you get the focus for stressing yourself and still have a target lock to reroll with.

How about this?

Academy Pilot x3: 36pts
Turr Phennir: VI, Stealth, Targeting comp: 31pts
Bounty Hunter: 33pts

It's simple, but lacks many aces other than VI Turr who would be flanking with his ability.

That's a lot of ships. It would have me taken a bit aback. But then again, I never faced a true swarm.

Turr, unlike Soontir, doesn't play well with Targeting computer. He gets one action in his perform action step, so you want a focus token, always. With 3 primary and 3 agility (or four with SD) you will roll so many eyes you will always wish you had taken the focus. Autothrusters fixes blanks on green dice without costing you an action or a token. You want that if you can get it. Turr's strong suit is that he practically has to take a boost or a barrel roll every turn, because he gets a free one after every attack, so never boost or barrel roll with your action unless you don't have a shot at all to begin with. Soontir is a token grabbing, boosting, barrel rolling mad man when he actions (because no matter what, you always end with one focus) Turr, you play more conservatively and count on your ability to reposition during combat to bait your opponent and then fly out of the way of his shots.

That little bit of advice out of the way, 3 TIEs and a Bounty Hunter is fine. I find the magic number for TIE fighters to go from annoying gnats to actually frightening is 4, especially if one of them is Howlrunner. This is close enough, because the Bounty Hunter functions like a big scary TIE fighter. Block higher PS ships, take a focus every turn (or target lock if you don't have any shots so you can save it for later) and then take shots of opportunity. I would rather have Howl and 4x Academy and Soontir, but this list will work too and you get to bring a Firespray, which is such a cool ship

How would my list cope against large ships, such as the YT-2600? I've struggled with them in the past, as they gun me down and I can't get past its shields!
