I stopped playing 40k as the necrons started showing up as a new army. Not sure how long ago it was but i'm sure someone here knows.
I recently picked up the Dark Vengence box set to get back into it, extremely dissapointed with the quality of GW models now, heads are cast into full bodies ???? when did this happen?
I've also been reading about recasts from china, whats the current opinions on this, i know i always talked about it back in the day (pre job) haha

anyway here's the third model I painted up, not going with a specific chapter, not sure on a color scheme for weapons so its unfinished.

I'm pretty sure Dakka has rules against overtly promoting recasting. I know locally it's become quite accepted for a lot of things. Everyone's local community will differ.

Love the staining at the bottom of his tabbard.

The thing to remember about DV is that it is a starter set, so things are going to have fewer parts. There seems to be no real rhyme or reason as to which kits in the normal ranges get designed in the number of pieces they do. There will be some where you just put on one part and some where you build every little part from multiple pieces. I find it best to look at the sprue pictures before making a purchase if that's a major concern.

If I could recommend anything though it would be to check out the third party accessory makers. Check the News & Rumours forum and you'll see people making and selling heads, weapons, new miniatures and all sorts of cool stuff.

Welcome!

In the group I play with there is a vast division, there are a couple of very vocal purist's in the group who will refuse to play anyone with recasts. On the other side are a number of poor students who have brought the models, painted them up and I can barely tell the difference from legit models.

Here on Dakka we prefer the pure side of the hobby, supporting your FLGS and keeping money in the hobby.
